One of the best bass lakes in the state is a small lake of about maybe 1000 acres located near Blanchard. It is a man made lake and only about 7 ft deep at the high water mark and in late fall and winter it gets down to less then 2 ft deep, the bass get really spooky when it get this low. But it is loaded with monster bass. I'm hoping it does not winter kill this year because the water was as low as 16"deep, but it's up now to about 30"
I fish my Sink-N-Fool Baits there in the early spring till late summer, from about 4 pm till after dark. Fish in and around the many willow trees that hang over and in the water on the North and East side of the lake. Redshad or natural shad are the best colors. Just cast in under the trees as far as you can and let the bait free fall. The bait has a huge wobble as it falls so no action is needed , just keep in loose contact with the bait and hang on. I got so many 4 ,5 ,and 6 pounders out of this lake I lost track. In one nite my partner and I would average about 6 to 10 fish this size ever time we went out. We practice catch and release of course. At sunset we would fish a black or white buzzbait made by Tantrum Lures, they are really loud and plane really well, one of the best buzzbaits I've ever seen. The same company make a great spinnerbait too, it has a differant shape to it then any other spinnerbait, but I fish their buzzer the most. They knock the hello out of these at nite, aa from sunset till well after dark. I've stayed till 1 in the morning sometimes. I fish these over the weed beds on the east side of the lake. The lake is on privite property but the landowner is nice enough to let the public use it, so If you do respect his lake and don't trash it up or you'll be goin to >:D
Take a small row boat or johnboats with electric motors only. The lake gets very weedy because it's so shallow but it holds more monster bass then you can believe. Please catch and release only on this privite lake.

This sounds like a really neat lake. Most of our fishing here in Louaisiana is in very shallow water as well, some of our full blown lakes average only 6-7 deep. That buzz bait bite sounds like a lot of fun is it mainly a summer time thing? Does this lake have a name? I guess it might not since it is private

Hey Mike, yes it has a name It's Blanchard Lake.
The action on the buzz bait is pretty much a late spring to early fall bite. When the water temps are up. As the water cools it goes back to a good bite on my sinking stick baits.

Sounds like you have them pretty well figured out. We will be looking forward to some great reports in the warmer months.
