Favorite Lake:  MANASQUAN RESERVOIR

Location:

Lake Map:

This lake is amazing. It has a variety of cover and structure. Points, ledges, riprap, humps, standing timber, rock piles, weedbeds, sand, gravel, muck, mud, the list goes on and on. If you like to fish a certain style or technique you can do it at Manasquan Reservoir. The bass fishing is excellant with largemouths, smallmouths, and even hybrid stripers. I've seen largemouths over 6 lbs., smallies over 4lbs., and hybrids over 8 lbs. It has an excellant boat ramp and picnic facility with bathrooms and a small bait shop. There is a launching fee for the boat ramp and you can purchase a year round pass for $35. They also have a tour boat for the family which goes out to where the eagles and osprey nest are. If you have never been there you have to make a point to go. It's run by the Monmouth County Park Systems and information can be found here:

Spruce Run Reservoir

31 North, just past clinton.

Green Stain on the water, but clear, visibility in colder water to 8 ft or so, in warmer water, when the algae blooms 3 ft maybe a little more

This year, weeds have taken over most of the main body, and back coves in the lake. The soil has become much more fertile the last year or so. Tons of rockpiles, just gotta know where they are  ~shade, laydowns, and submerged willow bushes.

+1
I love that lake.

I LOVE the standing timber there, I almost had an eight pounder there. I hooked a small yellow perch and when I got it about 20 feet from the boat a huge largmouth came up and annihilated it!
I couldn't hook it though.
but I still got a nice 5 pounder and some nice smallies.
:(

I have always liked Assunpink (did I spell that right?). Logged a lot of hours there. No gas engines permitted. They have recently improved the ramp and there is a small tackle shop on the entrance road.

  Jersey Anglers rule!!

New Assunpink Ramp

Very nicely done.....

It's good to hear that Gropps Lake has come back. I fished it a couple years after the dam broke and couldn't get a bite. I grew up in Bordentown, fished the Delaware a great deal. My parents live about 100 yards away from Gropps...I will definitely give it a try in the near future.  I remember when there was a pizza parlor on the corner...guess I'm showing my age.

Salem Canal: Tons of cover & healthy fish. Bad sand ramp with little parking so I usually fish it during the week. Great place to use just about any lure or technique. ~gf

mdb729

Surrey lake...It is in Washington Township, NJ, Glocester County
It is a little hole but has a ton of Bass and is rarely fished!

sml175

Merrill Creek or Manasquan. Although I live 2 minutes from Gropps and 15 from the Assunpink 3 I still prefer those 2. My all time is Champlain though!

shepherds lake (it counts half is in nj ~shhh) I can usually be found at he Ramapo reservation seeing that its right behind my new school anyone fish the passaic river here I hear alot of good things about it now seeing that its gotten cleaned up pretty good everywhere but the part that runs through my my town ( I live in Fair Lawn across the river from the crap hole city of Paterson that does/did nothing but pollute it)
I still dont got a boat
At least all this hiking around lakes is getting my fat ass in shape

The_Central_Jersey_Angler

My favorite is Mercer Lake. Lots of big bass and musky in there and good shoreline fishing which is necessary when you don't have a boat.

adirondack77672

sometimes the ponds are better then the lakes..lol Especially farm ponds and if you can get away with golf course or even luckier at night cemetery ponds. If you do the cemetery pond...pack lightly don't go alone and DO NOT bring a light...if you do you may be waking up behind bars. lo

Basser995

My favorite lake in NJ is Lake Lenape in Mays Landing. Big Largemouth live here!
