Nitro Fish

Last club I was a member of only fished Missouri Lakes, LOZ, Pomme, Mark Twain, Truman, Stockton, etc.  Just had better outings at LOZ and Pomme, club fished them twice a year, spring & fall.  This last year was the most I've ever fished Illinois lakes and they are a little different, more dirt banks and not as many natural rocks, along with water color and forage being somewhat different.

My personal favorite is Table Rock.

I like the submerged timber, the clear water, and most of all, the privacy!

If a guy can figure it out at Table Rock, he can probably do well anywhere. I have never experienced such a challenging body of water.

I don't enjoy bass fishing because it's easy. I love it because it is hard!

At LOZ I feel like I am always fishing in somebody's backyard.

You know, I left Truman off of the list. Let me see if I can add it.

Truman and Mark Twain have been added to the list.

By the way I have the poll set-up so that you can change your vote if you choose to.

Where's Lake Barkley or Kentucky Lake? or Pickwick, Reelfoot, or Enid?
So much to learn...such smart fish!

Nitro Fish

I was wondering any takers for Shelbyville or Rend?

Nitro I'll fish either of them. Rend doesn't seem to be a favorite with this group. I like Tablerock in the spring. But it sucks in the fall. >:( Pomme is good we always catch fish there and it's a good lake to finish up on. Springfield is good and it's close. What about Lake Egypt. March, April,May,or Sept,Oct, It's got grass, Rock, and clay, lots of laydowns and stumps, and a slot of three fish not touching twelve, and three fish over 16". They have redone pyramid acres and have a nice wide concrete ramp a new consession building with coffee sandwiches, snacks and drinks. They have a covered pavilion where we can weigh the fish. And it's in Illinois. I like most of the lakes we fish but still would like to fish more closer to home non overnight lakes. At least even out the travel non travel tournaments. I'll fish anywhere but have other oportunities that I'd like to fish also but still fish all of SteelCity's events.

Man, Larry talk about a tough choice!  :shocking: I think as a fishing club we are very fortunate to be located here in the midwest. We have more diverse fishing waters than most, everything from deep clear lakes to the muddiest rivers. I am torn between Table Rock and Smithland Pool as my top pick, both have their own unique qualities and challenges. I really enjoy the both bodies of water. So here are my choices: TRL, SP, LOZ.

Is it Spring yet!!!!!!!

Welcome!

There are a couple of pictures of you in the photo gallery here at UltimateBass.

Thanks for throwing out your 2-cents on the member poll.

We want to keep hearing from you as I think this forum is going to be a lot of fun for our members.

Take care and I'll see you and the wife at the awards meeting!

Dear "Hooked",

We do have Kentucky lake among our choices in the poll, but I limited it to places that our Steel City group has fished in the past.

I hope you understand.

Nitro Fish and CPR,

I just overlooked Shelbyville on the list of choices.

Rend, as CPR stated, is just not a favorite within our club. We've had one event there and it was pretty unexciting.

Lake Egypt is another question mark for me. I fished the march Collinsville club events there for a while and lost interest. (the locals were the only ones that had sacks of fish) We had at least one steel city event there and it was a paper tournament in April. Members were asked to bring any legal size fish to the launch for an official weigh-in but there was only one caught. The rest were paper fish.

We have steered away from paper tournaments since that event because of the need to draw partners for such an event.

Egypt just doesn't get my blood pumpin'. It is also a bit difficult to get a permit for a tournament there. (or at least it was) Good to hear that they improved the facilities at Pyramid. Hopefully they put a few more keeper-size fish in the lake too.

Heags, When you fished egypt wasn't it strickly a 16" limit? I've fished the Collinsville opens also and it's not always the locals that win it anymore. Besides we won't have any locals fishing with us. The slot makes it so everyone can turn in fish. I know the Collinsville open only fishes for 16" and over fish. We really don't fish any grass lakes if we get on jacksonville this year that will be one. There is grass on Kentucky and it's making a comeback but hard to locate large areas of it.

Yes, there was a simple 16" limit when we fished Lake Egypt last.

OK.... If we are going to cut back on travel tournaments which overnight event(s) would you replace with which local events.

If i were to pick one it would be the Fall Trock. I know that won't set well with you but that would be my first choice. I really like the lake but not in the fall. The whole event is really great but the fishing usually sucks.

With regard to the fall Table Rock tournament.....

I realize that the fishing is very difficult, but I am amazed at the numbers of people that just really look forward to going to that lake and entering that tournament.

Sure, the extravaganza that the club puts on there (spring and fall) is worth the trip in many ways, but it seems that the fall trip gets more families attending and enjoying the weekend.

I thought that the fall 2004 trip was amazing with everybody gathered around our outdoor thater watching the Cardinals in the world series on the big screen TV. That was a classic.

We have also seen a bit of a change at Table Rock in the last 3 or 4 years since the big fish kill. The fall event has produced some of our biggest bass of the season.

I think I told Nitro Fish earlier, I don't like Table Rock because it's easy, I love it because it is hard. Year in and year out it is the best test of skill that we have. (in my opinion)

Bumpboard

I think the 12-inch limit at Smithland means a lot in enhancing the experience. We've always said that our club consists of members of all skill levels. A person who is learning the sport can draw a heck of a lot of satisfaction from simply weighing a bass in one of our tournaments. Smithland offers that opportunity.

Heagster

I see a lot of votes for Smithland Pool as the favorite.

We have been going to Smithland twice a year for as long as I can remember.

Is this still a good idea?

Tell me what you think. (I may devote a thread just to this topic later)

I agree on Table  Rock in the fall being tough. If you can go and put a pattern together you're going to come out on top. This levels the playing field and I don't think we've had any repeat winners in the fall. I'd like to see it stay on the list. ~c~

It occurred to me that I had put a time frame on this poll and it had expired.

We have more individuals coming online with us and I want to offer them the chance to vote for their favorite too.

The time frame has been removed, so please place your votes!
