Fished Cypress lake yesterday after work. A light wind from the south, and plenty of sun. The water was stained and had a little bit of mud. Water temp was 50 degrees in most places. The water level is up about 4-6 inches from last time I was out there. I see the water level in black bayou is even higher up 6-8 inches. Anyways fished from 3-5:15 not very long, but long enough to learn some stuff.
Used a moderate retrieve starting out with nothing. Slowed down and started getting hits in 7-10 ft of water. Jigged some dock houses but with 0 results. Lost a good fish on a small white spinner, just slow rolling in about 7 ft. Then ran out of time. Seemed the fish were deep. most seem to be holding around 5 feet or more. I hope to go back out this afternoon after work again but we'll see. :)

never mind...I just remember this is the one I was trying to fish with a buddy from the base. My wife is making me take her crappie fishing though so we will be on Cypress also. I will have to try to make the weigh-in!

Russ199A

The weigh-in will be at 2:00 pm for those who didn't know about the change.
We want to make sure that you get to the X-MAS party on time, Fogy. That is a lot of miles to cover in a day and never leave bossier parish.

I thought Fogy lived in Webster?

doesnt open till seven.  so there wont be much time.

Mike Noble

The park doesn't open until 7 but the Parks Road launch is open all the time.  So the only reason anyone would have to wait until 7 is to get their sticker...should have it in advance to get out a daylight.

so when are we starting then? Mike you been out lately?

POST NUMBER 360,000

Mike Noble

I am assuming that blast off will be safe daylight, which is around 6:30.  I didn't read thru all the posts about the tournament, but Russ usually gives a "leave the ramp time" and "first cast time".

Nope, haven't been in over a week...but planning on going tomorrow.

The complete info is on the first post for the Maintainers post. The launch time will be at 0640, that is safe light time and the first cast will be at 0645. You can have your boat in the water before that if you want. I like to have my boat motor warmed up a little before I put the hammer down. Anyways the tourney times will be 0645 - 1400.

If Fogy leaves in webster then that is just that much farther that he will have to travel.

I do live in Webster, but we don't have to end the tournament early just for me guys.

I just made a comment to Mike that I'd be making two runs to town that day one for fishing and one for our club Christmas party, but both are worth it.  >:D

I made a time error on here. We will be launching at 0630-0635 and the first cast will be at 0640. The lake is real open and there isn't really any stumps or anything to watch for so it will work.  ~gator

Horrible. tried everything and even donated a plastic worm to someone.... it flew onto the dock when I cast  lo
mainly got to run though.  hit 82 then saw a dock I though would have fish on it.... Nope My lowrance showed NO movement at all,  well there was a fish here and there suspended but nothing real solid.  Found a few brush piles in 7-9 feet, and cast to them... NOTHING I know I hit the pile A: because of feel. B i got hung, and C I brought up a tree branch.   ~c~   50lb braid will straighten a jig hook out :help:  I ops tested it 2x and will have ACC review an implent it in the TO.  ;D  I got one little hit on a jig and hauled water. Had a rat dog try and attack me but the whole water thing got in the way and a squirrel tried to attack him so while watching the show I got hung up in 4 inches of water.. :bang
I only had a little while to fish 1-3ish. So i missed a few good areas that I wanted to fish.  Seemed to me I covered all the areas that had a GRADUAL grad to the water.  No drop off or contour AT freakin all. ~rant  Brought my jackplate up a notch, so Im either gonna hit 84-85 or blow out.  If its the later you all will be in for a good show.  :shocking: I shouldnt blow out but who knows.   Wish I had a map or somethin but me and Chris will make due.
When I bought my sticker the ranger said that 12+ that guy caught was released....I dont think he saw the post on the crappie board.  Oh and if anyone needs a cat let me know, the zoo there would love to give one of the  >:D cats a home, they are all black and think they own the place, they are 7-8 months old.

We could take them Cat fishing  lo  The only thing I like cats for is to keep my dog in shape chasing them out of the back yard.  >:D

Hey J10B, you will love me for this one. I found a depth map of Cypress for you. Let me know if it doesn't open up for you. Russ.

Let me know if this helps.

I thought I knew that lake but I see a hole I knew nothing about...I may have to inspect it for crappie saturday!  ;D

Russ199A

I've had this map for over a year now, but just didn't feel like sharing it. But I felt sad for J10B  :'( and thought that it was time to share the wealth.  :roll2: ~roflmao :roll2: ~roflmao
