I hope so.  There are a couple of other small, custom builders that may be able to build what I want, but I have a feeling they would be very expensive.

I will, but I'm a perfectionist so I work very slowly!  Could be a couple of years before I have it finished!  Actually, it will take me that long just to convince the wife that we need another canoe, one made from Kevlar!

:roll2: I can see where the wife might not understand the power that fishing has :roll2: Well at least keep us posted as the process unfolds :-*

Who knows, my mom might buy a new lightweight canoe.  She's also talking about buying a Jon  or "row" boat.  Wait till I send her links to the modified Jon boats with casting decks, pedestal seats, and carpeting!  I think my dad would enjoy building the boat with me, but he's not really into fishing.  He's just not patient enough to figure iut which techniques work.

She's 56 and this summer she has become addicted to fishing.  She can't bend over to take the fish off the hook so she calls me over to fish with her.  Come to think of it, she also asks me to pick out the lures for her too.   She's out-fished me 4 out of 5 trips to the lake.  I still catch a nice amount of fish too, so it's all good.  I ran to the Dick's here in Louisville and picked up some more plastic baits to try.  Looking forward to this weekend...  ~cf

I think thats great that you still get to fish with your family, the military has taken me to far from home to do such things except on an occasional vactation. Is the lake you are going to be fishing this weekend listed in your states fishing reports, we would love to have you give us a report on how the trip went. If it is not listed you can do it or let me know and I will get it put up for you :-*

It's a private reclaimed coal mine strip pit.  Stocked with fish over 15 years ago, restocked about 7 years ago when the neighborhood was developed.  It also has about a 3-5 acre fishing pond that was stocked as well.  Lots of 10-14" largemouths and sunfish.

You can add Blue Grass FWA to the Indiana fishing reports though.  It's about ten minutes NE of Evansville.  It's a large area of reclaimed coal mine pits as well.  Great bass fishing their in the Spring, HUGE bluegill in the summer.  The size limit is going up next year to 20" on two pits (from 18") and to 18" on all the other pits (up from 14").  I don't keep anything, I strictly fish C&R just because I have no desire to fillet and cook the fish.

No problem.  I just bought my IN license so I can fish up there.  Never had to worry about the license on private property.  I still need to register my canoe with the DMV to get numbers if I want to run an electric trolling motor though.

I plan to wade a couple of the smaller pits first!  Almost bought a set of chest waders today, but decided to check out a few others at Cabelas and BPS first.

My name is Andrew and i live in TN. I'm a diehard bass fisherman and the only other fish i catch are the ones that just happen to bite my bass lures. I have been fishing all my life as i grew up on the lake with my parents and learned to bass fish by watching the Bill Dance and Roland Martin and Jimmy Houston fishing shows back in the 70's........I had good teachers, lol. But you always learn new things even tho you like to think you already know everything. So i'm glad i found this site cause i'm always open to learning new ways of catching bass....

Bassin Cowboy

Well I'm another Calvin that's climbed aboard this vessel. Funny thing is.......most folks call me Cal too. Originally a native from Oklahoma that resides in the Atlanta area now (ah how I miss home). I've just had the fire re-lit under me about this great sport after quite a few years of being absent from it. Have began introducing some new folks too it too that have never felt the thrill of a monster hawg tugging on the end of the line. I spent many hours as a kid and as a young man bank fishing on many ponds in Oklahoma as I found that those offered better luck for bass than lakes did (kinda hard to fish mid-lake islands without a boat...LOL). A recent striper expedition to Lake Hartwell, Ga is what brought the fire back in me for bass fishing on a whole. My hopes is find those of you that are quite a bit more familiar with the fishing here in Ga. than I am and can point me in the right directions of where, what new technologies lie out there just waiting to eat away at my bank account, and any new developments in lure presentations. Still don't have a boat and I've been hard pressed to meet anyone that does. For many around here in the Atlanta area, they seem to have this delusion that a lake is something that I would call a pond but a lake is still a lake too. I'm a bit confused on this terminology but I guess it don't matter much as long as you can get a line wet and the fish are bitin'. I look forward to bantering back and forth with all of you as well as swappin' tales both true and fictional about our experiences. Still lookin' for that trophy to hang on the wall too. This task has been quite difficult to obtain with my "long retirement" and even from my youth...no one to teach me properly on how to do all this stuff. I learned what I could on my own and certainly look forward to getting great tips from you experts.

Fishaholic: Yeah I knew that anything less than 100 acres is a pond. I'm just trying to understand the Georgia thing. LOL. They kinda get it all mixed up on the creek and river thing too. LOL.

Father time: Again, thanks for the warm reception! I think first off would be to find a few people around here that might be interested in lettin' me tag along. Any of you know of anyone around these parts?

Mike Cork

Cal Russell, I will do some digging and drop your name and see what I can come up with for ya. Looking forward to seeing you around the site :-*

Ouachita

I'm Jim Campbell, a professional forester, currently working for the U.S Army Corps of Engineers on and around Lake Ouachita, near Hot Springs, Arkansas as a Park Ranger nearing retirement. My previous assignment was Wildlife Habitat Management Forester at Pine Bluff, AR, for 6 years being the chief manager coordinating state, federal and private wildlife management plans in an effort to maintain Corps interests along the Arkansas River from Little Rock to the Mississippi River. Fisheries considerations were a primary factor in management of the watershed within the river levees. Foot problems forced me to take a position involving less walking over rough terrain, landing me at a premier bass fishing destination of a huge number of anglers, and a favorite place for major as well as numerous smaller fishing tournaments. The FLW Championship was held here this month on nearby Lake Hamilton, another very good fishery.

I've been fishing Lake Ouachita since 1959, becoming very familiar with the lake, learning to fish in what many pros consider a really tough lake to figure out. It's 40,000 surface acres and 700 miles of shoreline can be a daunting challenge to analyze daily. Over the years I've part-time guided for hire by word of mouth, though can't yet compete directly with local guides, nor advertise because of an apparent conflict of interest. I'm content to live within 20 minutes of launching there, and have regular contact with many Arkansas pros launching there too. On the job I am one of those Smokey Bear guys working the ramps, enforcing the No-Wake Zone, doing boat safety inspections, directing traffic, handling emergencies, etc. In the course of that I have frequent dialog with pros and amateurs alike, keeping up with the latest in baits, techniques, successes and failures. I pass on tips, teach knot tying, casting techniques, giving visiting anglers whatever information they lack towards a successful day of fishing. I rig up worms for kids and adults, giving them one of the hottest lures going (out of my own supplies), and will be the one giving nightly "campfire" fishing shows following a short kid's derby, officially starting this coming Fall in various campgrounds around the lake where amphitheater facilities exist. I've already been doing those shows, soon to be complete with a Power Point program covering basics plus current seasonal information.

Off the job you will most likely find me fishing on one of around 100 trips a year there or another local lake during an additional 30-40 days a year, mostly during low light hours.

I look forward to contributing and reading to learn ever more here.

Jim
