I went out to Black Bayou yseterday afternoon.  The water was very muddy and cold (51 degrees).  I only caught one; it was just under the slot. :(  I threw jigs, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, rat-l-traps, worms, lizards, buzzbaits, flukes, and a Tiki Stik.  I caught my only fish on a baby bass colored tiki stik.  The fishing wasn't that great, but the company was good.  I met Greg on the lake yesterday, and he said that he visits the site, but hasn't posted yet.  Hopefully after he sees me picking on him here, he will start posting to redeem himself.  >:D Anyways, I had a great time meeting Greg and I think I will try to get some white bass this weekend, or maybe some crappie!

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and you'll never see him again!

Mike Cork

No that the water has got that cold, when we get a couple sunny days the big fish will be hungry ;) So keep an eye on the weather and time your trip right and it will be awesome. Let us know how it goes with the whites or sac a lait.

Greg & I fished BB sunday afternoon for about 3 hours. 4 fish - 3 slots & 1 under. Just glad we didn't get skunked.

mitchell

Got anymore details? Was thinking about going there this weekend.

Worked 2 hours yesterday, then decided to take 6 hours of vacation. Went back to BB, we ended up w/8 total. 2 overs around 3lbs. each, 3 shorts, & 3 slots. Water temp was 55/56 pretty much everywhere we went & we did cover the whole lake. The flats were muddy, but everywhere else looked pretty good as far as water color. Still surprised that we are catching fish with as much fresh water as we've been getting. Got rained on and as soon as the rain stopped, found some schoolies ;D Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but the bass out of BB have a funny shape, kinda like a hump back. Damn fish must be inbreeding ;D

Ron Fogelson

I've noticed some like that on Bistineau, Cypress & Cross as well, I don't know if its from being shocked up by the wild life guys or what, but some have a real big hump that starts just behind the head & ends about at the back of the 1st back fin.

My wife & her uncle & dad fished B/B yesterday for white perch. I think they only caught 5 or 6 between the three of them. They did say there were 3 other boats fishing the same area & catching quite a few.

I as well have caught several humpbacks out of BB and Cross. The 7lber I caught out of cross looked like a fish that has used tooooo many steroids. Looked like a hump back whale.  ~sun

Late post!!    Went to BB on Saturday 18th, from sun up till about 1:00.  The bite was slow, but with decent quality.  Water temp started at 43 and forcasted to be a sunny day with high in the 60's.  I thought the fish would come up to the shallows as the water warmed after the cold weather we had.  I keyed in on the back of boat docks and got a 1#, 2#, and 3#.  All from the back side of the docks on a black and blue jig with super chunk trailer.  The fish got bigger as the water temp rose to about 49.  Water was stained.  Parents are comming to town tonight, so I might take Dad fishing in the morning if its not to darn cold.

mitchell

With the water being in the 40's I would say you did good  ~c~ . How deep was the back of the docks that the fish came off of ?

Country

depth was about 1-3 ft deep.

mitchell

Thanks country. Thats not much water compared to the water temp. I would have guessed it was 6-8 feet. Again good job finding them.

Went to Black Bayou today and NOTHING.  Fished from 8:00 to noon without a single bite.  Tried boat docks in all depths, rock banks, brush tops, bare banks, bridge...could not find anything.  Tried spinnerbaits, worms, jigs, and traps...yes, I said traps.  Talked to BassBUFF and Kingfish at about 11:00, same story for them.  Also talked to a guy at the landing at noon...no bites for him either.  So, I can safely say I will NOT be fishing Black Bayou for the tournament.

Water temp was 48-49 and the air temp was NOT that warm.  Water was not bad on the south end but got more stained as you got closer to the ramp.

Have I said how much I HATE winter time fishing.  :'(

We fished from about 1130 until 330. Caught two fish. One was almost 18 inches the other 16 inches. Both were caught on Black/Blue jigs  :( , Mine was my second jig fish to ever catch. Both were caught in about 2 feet of water on banks with scattered rocks & bricks.

We did see one guy catch several on a deep running crank in about 15 foot of water. I will definately keep that spot in mind for the 13th!

Mike Noble

Good job Bassadict.  Maybe they started biting when it warmed up in the afternoon.  lo

Talked to a guy at the landing and he told me that a friend of his has been catching some decent fish on chrome/blue rattletrap...not a lot of fish but mostly overs.  I threw that bait today...caught a leaf on one cast.

Warmed up? I must have missed that  lo . We were throwing a carolina rig in the same spot as the guy throwing the crank. After his 3rd fish, we eased on out of the area! They didn't want the C-rigs we were throwing though.

We were marking LARGE balls of shad about 5 feet off the bottom with several big fish symbols mixed in. We should have went back with cranks but didn't, we were a little chilly & ready to go!

Mike Noble

Maybe I was thinking about how I warmed up once I got in the house.  :roll2:

I think so... When we left, I was thinking it was colder than when we got out there.

Jared LeBlue

I'm here to tell you it was plum cold out on the lake today. It warmed up a wopping 3 degrees where we were.

Our day was just as bad on BB. Water temp was 48-49. We actually caught ONE under  :'( up north on a point. I think I hit him on the head with my spinerbait. that was the only bite Kingfish and I had all day.  We tried spinners, traps, plastic, rogues, and jigs on docks, points, and flats. Only the one taker.

Only good thing about the day was the company :)!

Trey

Went to the lake this morning after I got off work and stayed from 0700 to 0900.  Sorry, but it was cold and 12 hour shifts make me sleepy  :surrender: :'( !  I caught one over at 7.  She hit a black/ redflake jig in 2.5 ft of water.  I pitched to a stump next to a dock and she picked up my jig after a few hops.  I want to go back when the wind isn't blowing so much and it's a litle warmer outside.

Fished from about 2 til dark without a bite.  :'( Tried banks, docks, rocks, deep water...We tried it all! Tried spinnerbaits, jigs, cranks & traps with no takers.

Water was 49-52. Muddy north of the launch & stained on the south end of the lake.

BassBUFF

Addict, I feel your pain. Same story for us last weekend.

Mike Cork

Did you work that point you found with all the fish on it last weekend?
