Anyone been out there lately?

BA, after that last club tourney I havent wanted to see that sorry lake.  lo No , Im just kidding ..It is still one of my favorite lakes. I have heard Tx rigging the channel ledges has produced some good fish. But that is some slow fishing. I can tell you where some brushpiles are . Dopey found one of them in our club tourney but didnt get anything off of it. Of course it was only a few weeks old then. May be holding some fish now.

Fished BB today from about 1000 - 100. caught 3, all slot, Lost one better than eight and missed several more.  They seemed to like a tube jig and all bites came in 2 - 4 feet of water, mostly on docks and scattered brush. Would have stayed longer but.... 45 degrees + Rain/Sleet = miserable.

What's the water level like there right now?

Three words....low, low, and very low. About three feet below normal...temps about 52 - 53.

Thats alright Jeff, if you had an 8 on even for a few seconds I know you had a good time. Man that is what it is all about.

Fished from about 0900 until 1315 today....caught 9, all came on piers in 2 -4 feet and were caught on the outer, shady edges. Black neon tube, and black/blue jig with sweet beaver 4.25 trailer in Hematoma...biggest around 4.81 according to the X-Tool scale. Water is still very low, temps from 49.7 up to 52.6.

I was able to get off work early enough to go home and get some sleep Saturday morning.  So I went out to BB and had a good day.  From 0900 till noon caught 5 on pumpkin brushhogs with chartrues tails in two foot of water on grassy banks.  Didn't get a single bump on a dock.  After noon we caught 4 more, and they all came off docks.  All were in two foot of water behind the dock in shade only on the same brushhog.  No bites on senkos, rattle traps, or spinners.  Water temp ranged from 59 to 63.  The water was warmer up on the launch end of the lake (where all of the fish were caught except for one).

My daughter has been after me to take her fishing so I decided to load up this mornign & take her crappie fishing. I figured they should be up on the brushy boat houses by now. Well, the wind kept us from fishing the ones that I usually do best on.

We were fishing one dock & the owner came down & opened two big hatches in the deck of his pier & told us she could get on his dock & fish those holes. No white perch but she did latch into about a 4-5 pound bass on her little zebco & 8 pound line. She fought with it a few minutes before it broke her line. She got it to the top but couldn't get it out of the water. That Zebco was making so much noise that I thought I was gonna have to throw water on it to cool it off!  lo

I finally decided to tie her on a beetlespin & we try a little bass fishing. We went to the north end since it was about the only place out of the wind. She had the only bites. She threw her beetle spin up in between some moss, a seawall, & one lone stick laying on the edge of the water. It looked like a toilet flushing!  :shocking: A HUGE basss jumped all over her beetlespin, made one run down the seawall & SNAP!!!

After about an hour of no bites, I seen her pull a shiner out of the bucket & put it onto her beetlespin. I asked her what she was doing & she said "Maybe they want a minner with it!" Two cast later & she boated one! Wasn't a  big bass but to her it was huge.

Final Score...
Me...0
Shawn...0
Rachel...1 with 2 breakoffs  ;D

She kept throwing into the grass & moss around the banks & getting hung up. I asked her why she keeps doing that & her reply was "Because that is where the bass are" DUH!  ~roflmao  WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN STARTED!

Chris

BA,you gotta take her white bassin... I say we get a group of our club members together ,caravan down the Sabine in a couple of weeks and everyone bring their kids. By the way that was a good story lo

bassadict69

Sounds like a great idea! She would love it!

BIG PAPA

Fished today from 1400 till 2000.  Caught 13 bass and 4 crappie (which are in the frying pan right now).  2 overs, 1 slot, 2 unders, and the rest dinks.  All caught on a fluke throwing at banks.  Water temp was 72-77.

Hit up Black Bayou again yesterday from 1745 till 2000.  Caught 8 bass, 6 crappie, and 2 bream.  1 over, 2 slots, 3 unders, 2 dinks.  All the bass, 2 crappie, and the bream all came on a fluke.  The other 4 crappie came on a white beetle spin.

Brent said the bass were biting so I took my 4 yr old and 10 yr old to BB-Benton today ,we got there about 9 am and immediately starting catching em on flukes in about 1 ft of water . We backed off when the sun came out and threw the Carolina rig out as deep as 16 ft of water and only caught two doing that in roughly 3.5 hours. Late afternoon we put the flukes back on and started busting em again. We were throwing as shallow as we could and getting bit ,bite was best around nasty looking matted grass. We were throwing super flukes and tiny flukes (watermelon with tail dipped),the smaller flukes were getting the majority of the fish and also accounted for the only two overs we got. We ended up with two big white perch and roughly 25-30 bass in nine and half hours ....those kids would not let me leave for nothing ...they wanted to stay and night fish. :o
The majority of the fish were around 11- 12 inches but still alot of fun for kids. So if you have kids take em out there quickly.

I have taken the day off Friday & plan on going to Cypress. I have heard a few reports that the big female crappie have just started moving shallow so I plan to go try them out.

I plan to take my daughter Saturday & may have to hit B/B if we don't do so hot on Cypress.

Chris & Brent, What parts of the lake were you fishing or were you pretty much all over?

Chris

BA , We worked all of the coves .Doctor Deaths was pretty good ,we caught 7 or 8 in there . There was some nasty grass in there against the seawall and that is where most bites came in that particular cove. The shallowest poles on docks with grass are doing well. Work the fluke slow as you can stand it.

bassadict69

Thanks Chris...I know that cove well! I grew up right there by that cove so I spent many days in a jon boat working it since I wasn't allowed on the main lake.

When you first come into that cove from the main lake, there is a boat house on your left with lots of brush around & out in front of it. Did you find any crappie there? They usually pile up on it this time of year.

I didnt catch any there but we didnt work that dock much because there were people walking around on it and I didnt want my kids to cast and get hung up or hang somebody..... . I know the crappie were messing with me all day though, they would pick my bait up for a bit and put it down. I talked to a guy who was fishing at the ramp and he had a bunch of big ones fishing an artificial minnow under a cork and that was just at the ramp. The name of the lure was Little Fishy and you can buy it at Wal Mart. He would throw out ,let it sit for a second , then occasionally give it a couple of pops while dragging it a bit.

bassadict69

I bought 2 packs of the small white lil fishies today!  ~c~ I am ready.

Looks like 15-25 winds again tomorrow!  ::) :(
