I got off work at 4:30 and felt the need to find some water quickly.  I fished black bayou from 5:15 till 7:00. Caught 1 under, 3 slots and 1 over ( 5 1/2#) and one sac-a-lait. All fish were caught on a small crawfish imitating crank-bait. Several boats launched at dark to night fish. I would be interested in a report if anyone knows anything.

Mike Cork

I have heard several reports of bass fisherman catching Crappie on Black Bayou Benton. I am looking to go there to catch some white perch. Looking for an Idea of where to start main lake, coves, north end ???? any help would be greatly apreciated, even if you caught one by accident bass fishing........

Mike,
I fished Black Bayou today 3 till 6 pm with a Rebel crawfish crank bait. I only caught two slot bass. I caught 4 white perch and they were all caught on the north bank right after you go under the bridge up to the first point.  They were sitting off the end corners of the piers. Hope this helps.

Mike Cork

I assume you were going under the bridge from the launch ramp?

Did brush seem to matter?

and did you catch more that one at any particular spot? or where they just scattered?

Thanks for the info

Yes I was heading under the bridge from the launch.  The fish were fairly scattered for me but I was using a crank bait and was unable to really fish the brush along the way.  During the past week I have made 3 trips to Black Bayou and have caught crappie in almost every area I fished.

Mike Cork

Darren thanks a bunch, I will find out this morning and let you all know.......

Hit Black Bayou today to try and catch a few white perch. We ended up with 35 that were eatin size and a couple that were 15 inches. All but a couple came on 1/16 oz crappie jigs and the other on a bettle spin. Color didn't seem to matter we tried them all and all worked.

Darren and Nick Thanks for the inputs.

BIG PAPA

Hey Mike; isn't it about time for the Cypress Crappie to turn on. I remember in one post you said about when the Dogwoods bloom. Have they not moved in?

papa 8)

Mike Cork

Papa I tried over there last weekend and only caught three Nathan caught a dozen but mostly small. Now I will say that one of the ones I caught was almost three pounds. Had visions of state record :o until I weighed her...... I exspect them to show up in full force anyday....

Mike,
Sounds like you did well.  Where did you find them? I would like to take my kids next week. They get bored when I take them bass fishing.

Mike Cork

Darren,

I went again this past wednesday, and caught a bunch. I haven't found a supper productive dock or brush pile yet. The easiest one that if I had kids that wanted to I would take them to is......

Head up the lake from the launch under the bridge and to the last cove on your left (its more of a pocket) As you work into this pocket you will see a couple different boat docks but right now there is a new one being built on past it towards the back just before the next dock there is a brush pile right on the bank. I think this has been our most productive spot.....

I am going again today so I will let you know....
buy the way I have caught several with a beetle spin just cruising the banks so there is an option too

I have to work saturday morning but I get off at 1:00. Me & the wife were planning on hitting the north end of Cypress, but I think we will probably have to try to find the white perch on Black Bayou since everyone is doing so well out there right now.

Are ya'll catching them mainly in the mornings or all day? It will probably be 2-3:00 before we get out there.

Mike Cork

Bassadict, I was out there again today and Nathan and myself brought home over 40 and 15 where over 14 inches.....

The bit is actually better in the afternoon. During the pre noon hours we strugled with a fish here and there then in the afternoon we went back to some of the same docks and slayed them plus in the afternoon we were catching the just casting a bettle spin to the steeper banks. Good luck no real hints to give but the brushy'r docks above the bridge were best....

NADA...ZILCH...ZERO...

Got to Black Bayou at about 2:30 and fished for about 4 hours without even a bite. Fished almost every boat house I knew of with brush.

Mike we even tried the brush pile on the bank past the new pier in that last small cove on the left. No bites. There was a good size fish swirling around in the water behind the last straight pier in that cove. It was a small amount of water between the pier and the bank. I never could get him to bite either! :'(

Oh well, hopefully we'll have better luck on Cross tomorrow!

Mike Noble

Fished Black Bayou today with Mike Cork.  Came off the water with 10 bass and 5 sac-a-lait in the livewell.  Caught a couple of slot fish also.  Most of the bass came on spinnerbaits.  Sac-a-lait bite was really not that good.

Tomorrow is CROSS fishing day! ;D

Anybody have a report from fishing BB lately?

Mike Cork

Nick where are you when we need you? You are always fishing black... Red Ranger try a private message to "bentonfootball" or "Nick" he usually fishes this lake alot. Also Mike Noble posted in the cypress lake catagory about a tournament that was held on both cypress and black bayou so he might have some rumor info?

Trey

Where is the ramp for Black Bayou?

Trey  8)
Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and you'll never see him again!

bassadict69

The Black Bayou ramp is off of north Airline drive. Go up airline drive and turn right just behind the 911 building. It is about a hundred yards or so on the left.

Mike Noble

I don't know about daytime fishing, but it apparently was not too good for this past Friday night.  I think 5 or 6 boats went to Black Bayou, and there were not too many fish caught.  I know Nick didn't have any weigh fish and I don't think he caught much.  I did hear one guy say that he had caught a few.  He also said that he would be on Cypress for the next Friday night tournament.

Trey,
Sent you a map of Cypress/Black Bayou in private e-mail as a jpeg file.    Black Bayou launch is circled in dark black.

Talked to my buddy today and they are catching fish at night on Black Bayou . They fished BB in the fruit jar Friday night and he said they had five overs ,4 of which were after midnight. You talk about patience. Weigh in is at 1 am .So basically in the last thirty minutes they caught 12.5 of their 16 pounds . They went again last night and said the fish kicked on about 2 am and they left the fish biting at 6 am, they had five overs and some tight eyes...All I could get out of him is that they are texas rigging and using black.

Mike Cork

Real good to hear the bite is coming on! I love night fishing and BB Benton is close!!!
