Fished the river for crappie today from about noon til about 4:45pm. We were fishing the bridge pilings on 12 Mile Bayou. Ended up with 23 crappie, 3 bass, 1 catfish & 2 gasper gou (for the cats)

All fish caught on silver shiners. Water temp was 56-57 degrees.

Going back in the morning & will post another report tomorrow evening.
Sounds like you did pretty good!, How about that update you promised??
I have a day off this thurs and was thinking of giving the perch a try on the river. I scrolled through some post and thought I would give Caspiana a try but Stoner launch is alot closer. LMK if you think they are still biting there. However I could try chunking a rattle trap at day break if I go to Caspiana. I never do very well on bass in 12 mile. Has anybody been doing any good on crappie arond the bee hive?? I like that lil hole!
I have one day off so I want to make the most out of it ya know.
later guys/gals
Thnx

Sorry about that...I forgot!  :-\

We fished the Monday after New Years from about 8 til 330pm. When we first got to the second bridge in 12 Mile we caught about 7 white perch right off the bat off the bridge posts, then it quit! We pulled a couple more out just here & there. We ran as far as the low water dam hitting brushtops but did no good.

The crappie had shut down on us so we pulled out the cast net & caught some shad & did a little catfishing. We ended up the day with 10 white perch & 6 cats.

Thanks for the report BA and you catch your own shad too  ~c~ ~c~

Well I took off work thursday @230pm when I saw that front coming in and hauled butt home and hooked up and ran to bacons bought some shiners the owner was telling me it was perfect weather for fishing and I should smoke em if I could get on em. So with a big head now I  ran to 12 mile bayou to look for these perch. I went to the second bridge and saw fish all over the fish finder and said this must be the spot he was talking about. Threw out 2 rods and kicked back. With in a couple minutes one cork took a dive. I was like wow he was right! jumped on the road and pulled up a small blue cat, sigh. chunked him back in and tried again. Couple minutes later went by and the same cork went down. I was like lets see what this one is pulled up a pretty good size blue. Well dang. threw him in the livewell and tried again. 10 mins went by and I was tired of that spot. went further up 12 mile and came across a few more bridges. But no fish around them. I did see some fish balled up around some pillings they had on the right side of the bank. So I tired there for about 20 mins with no luck. I tried a few other spots with no luck so went back to the first spot and nuthing then tried the very first bridge and nothing, by this time it was allmost dark so I gave up. Better luck next time. I think tomm (sunday) I will give caspiana a try.
I caught you a delicious bass!

Hi Whatcam...I was in Caspy this morning bass fishing and there were several boats in there perch fishing...Some in the bamboo and other around in other places...

The bite was slow for the perch and bass...kinda expected that with near full moon last night, clear bluebird sky, and not much wind..

I may be in there again Sunday so holler if you see me...I'm in a 17' Alumaweld with 70 horse Yamaha...

Hey Scottie. Was that you I waved at? You had the carhart coat on right?? Anyway I kinda beat you to the post but I guess it didnt work. It was a long post too. Oh well here goes again.

Well today wasnt very good at all. It started out pretty good. Everything was right on schedule and was at the boat launch right before light. I was in high hopes with the weather as nice as it was. Perfect day to fill the boat up. At safe light we left out of the s'port launch off Hwy 1 and headed to caspy. I didnt see very many boats so I stopped off to try the first bamboo point as you come in for bass. No luck. So I motored on back there thinking we would get a pretty good spot but as you saw they had it lined up with like 4-5 boats, sideby side allready. I dont know how they got there so fast! So we tried to the outside a lil from them however bottom was to mucky though. after 30 mins or so with no bites I tried on the inside of them in a good looking hole, clean bottom, 10-14' deep, cover, no fish though. But I felt a lil better b/c they wasnt doing all that good either. I only saw them put 2 or 3 fish in the boat out of all of them. They must have been doing pretty well b/c one guy was there from dark till about 1130 when I left in the same spot. I did leave caspy around 10ish to go look at the beehive. That was a wasted trip, its like 6-8' back there. Went back to caspy and tried another spot for about 45 mins. Then gave up. I didnt do much bass fishing b/c I had my girlfirend and my best friends wife with me and figured it would be kinda rude for me to be doing alot of bass fishing with them sitting there so I will try that next weekend. It was a great morning though we had alot of fun. I hope you did better Scottie, was the bite as slow for you or am I just that bad?. Oh and one more thing. I got a brand new XPS softsided tacklebox for xmas from my dad It was great too. I had it loaded down with eveything I owned. It was the big $80 one. All my spinners, worms, cranks, everything. Well the bag was so heavy I have been leaving it in the boat. Well I went for my needle nose pliers about 10am and relized it wasnt in the boat!!!!!!
It blew out on the way there some how!!!! I am devistated to say the least. How would you like to start over and have to buy all your tackle over again. I mean the only baits I own right now are a chrome 1/4 oz rattletrap and a baby brushhog thats on my pole now. Its gonna take some time to get it back like it was.
I am gonna have to get a replacement so when dad ask me hows it working I can say great. Oh well somebody found them selves a nice treat huh.

I caught you a delicious bass!

Hi Clint...yep...that was me in the lt. brown carhart...trying to stay warm..ha...I was going to come back around but followed a couple of other boaters from work to another area I hadn't been in..

Some days are better than others in the bamboo....It was slow again today.....Clarks was closed so couldn't get any minnows so went over there about 10:00 to try to jig some up..but no luck and the other guy had been there since daylight only had 6..

Thought you were in a little shallow to start.....I know there were several other boats there and that's where most try to get...right where the bamboo kinda curves back....also right out from where the other boats were there are about 3 underwater stumps right before the channel droppes on off...got to find them on the graph but usually there are a few perch there also...

Bass was slow again but still managed to catch 11 and kept 7...but they were all pretty good fish...mostly on white spinner early and then rest on rattle trap..

Real bummer about your box... I bought one of the XPS softsides also but I believe mine was the smaller one...I realy like it too..first time I've been somewhat organized...sort of..ha....

I guess you know but I would be real surprised that that box blew out of your boat...Did you stop anywhere or leave it out where some bumb could steal it? I do hope it turns up...

See you out there again,
Scottie

whatcam

Yeah that first spot I tired was too shallow. I was gonna let the girls fish off the back where I thought it was gonna be deeper and I would just play a little up front. But we didnt stay there very long before I got the point and tryed moving around some to the deeper water. Oh well thats the first time I have been back there. I will get the hang of it. Have you ever tried using one of those fan rigs where you slowly troll in the open when you find them on the depth finder using about 4 or 5 poles with about a 1/4 weight on the bottom of the line to keep it tight and 2 or 3 hooks a foot or so apart with shiners hooked through the mouth? Seems like that would be a good spot to try that as I saw alot of fish in the middle while idleing around. It would probably work pretty fair on 12 mile bayou also.

Congrats on the good haul today BTW I was thinking all day at work that I wish I had off. They are biting today as I dont care if i get a lil wet. It never rained that hard, just enough to keep all the traffic down on the river.
I told a few guys at work about the tackle box and they said the same thing. No way in hell that thing just blew out, did I go to a gas station or anything. Well I loaded the boat about 530am while my gf cooked breakfast, I noticed a car drive by and thought whats this wierdo doing up at 530 on a sunday morning. hes not fishing thats for sure!!! lol but blew it off. In hindsight I remeber the thought going through my mind well he just saw me put all this stuff in the boat thats not good. But forgot about it. Well a lil while later I heard another car, however I assumed it was the other girl showing up that was due at any moment. But she never knocked and I was so busy gettiing stuff going I didnt think much about it. Now I wonder if that SOB made the block and came back, not seeing me in sight hopped out and snagged it and drove off as I ate breakfast. I dunno for sure of course but thats the only time it was left unattended was while we ate breakfast for 25 mins. either way stolen or blew out it sux big time. Even when I get all the baits back it wont be the same. As then I will just have a tackle box full of new baits. they wont replace the gold/orange belly rattling rogue my deceased mom bought me for easter when I was 18 or the spinner baits I have had since I was in highschool that have had about 4 sets of skirts through the years and all the memories of fishing trips, and assorted crankbaits my dad passed on to me when I took up fishing as a kid. I guess I will just have to make new memories with the new baits.
I caught you a delicious bass!

Sorry for the week late report guys but i just found this site last night. Last week my best friend and I went out to the Red River for a little bass fishing, little did we know what we would get into.

We worked our way down a deep part of our favorite oxbow, my friend throwing a white spinner bait and myself throwing a shad colored crank bait. We were close to the back of the oxbow when my friend called out to me that he had a good one on. When he got it to the boat it was a 2.5 pound White Perch, two cast later i caught one close to the same size and then he caught another shortly after.

I got to thinking there has got to be something to this so we put down the bait casters and picked up the spinning reels, set up a jigging cork and a pink/white perch tube on a black jig head. then in 3 feet of water we caught Perch on the next 25 cast we made. We caught 100 white perch in no time all of them being from 1.5 pounds to 2.5 pounds,  they were the biggest i have ever caught in my life.

I don't know why in the world they were in 3 feet of water right by that deep spot, we catch some this time of year but it is always in 25 feet of water and they are not half this size. This  was the best day of Perch fishing I have ever had. I know they have moved out now because of the weather, that day it was 74 degrees and water temp was 59.4. I can't wait to go back but I may never have another day like that one, it was truly a magical day on the water and why fishing is the greatest.

Took a quick shot but sadly only half of the fish were in the pic and you can't tell a whole lot from it.......... :'(

Way to go Rangerboats05!  ~c~  Nothing like a day on the water, unless its a great day on the water!

What is the easiest way to get into Caspiana?

I have followed someone in there a couple of times & have always went through a stump field going over one stump after another.

Is this the only way to get in there?

Hawgwild

bassadict....Come out of Clarks and go north up the river.....A little ways up you will se a cut thru in the rocks......There are rock pilled high on either side of this break so you know you are at the right cut....note...further north there is another break in the rocks, but you will hit if you try to run thru that one..

Anyway...go through the break and continue north.....on up probably a quarter mile or so look for a reflector stuck on one of the stumps...take a left at that marker heading toward the far bank...look closely and you will see another marker on a stump closer to that bank...Seems like it's a coke can stuck on a sucker rod..ha

When you reach past that marker turn left heading south till you see the main Caspiano area and you will also see a break in the stumps entering into Caspiano..

This way you will be in pretty much open water all the way in..

Hope that helps..
Scottie

bassadict69

Thanks Scottie...That should help!

That is the main reason I never go in there...because it was such a pain to get in there both times I followed someone in. Evidently they didn't know there way in either.

whatcam

Hey Scottie, I have looked on my map and the only place even close to being named the "white house" is some place called the "pink house" which shows to be just down from clarks past "dozer point"
Is this the same spot? Anyway, what about the stump field around Mcdade area, anybody fished it lately? Or Lil ninock? Just tryin to think of another spot to go since Caspy is so popular on the weekends. I might have sat off unless they call out. If they do I will go sunday for sure, rain or shine. I have $300 worth of new tackle I have to break in.
I caught you a delicious bass!

Hawgwild

Hi Clint...well glad you got all your tackle kinda back together....Tough way to have to start over..

I believe what most people refer to the White House is north, on up-river from Clarks and on past the Entrance to Caspy...It's on the same side of the river as clarks...

It's a little harder to explain how to get into also.....I haven't really fished it that much either...just kinda hard to get away from Caspy.. :)

Haven't fished Dozer or Lil. Ninock in a long time either or the McDade area you mentioned at all...

I'll will likely be there Sat. morning also so if we do decide to run to the White House I'll try to look you up...

Scottie

whatcam

Sounds good Scottie LMK if you go I would like to follow you in. I have had some good luck in the Mcdade area. One time I sat in the same spot from daylight till 11am and caught about 10 or 11 bass. Anywhere from dinks too 3.5# on a junebug brushhog. Im sure its either too low or choked up right now. I might have to make a run down there to check it out if I have time.

I caught you a delicious bass!

whatcam

Are you talking about in the mcdade oxbow itself or just in the sump field and rocks out from the entrance?

kw4570gov

The white house is just north of Clark's. There is an opening in a long rock revetment running parallel with the river on the Clark's side of the river BE CAREFUL when you go through the opening it is shallow with rocks on the bottom. Enter into the opening as far North possable with your outboard trimmed up high until you go through. Good fishing in there last summer.
