I had always planned on fishing until I was 80.  Although I have passed my 79th and headed for 80 it seems likely that my bass fishing days on my own in my Ranger are over.  Fact is my health has not been all that good so I guess it is time to just accept the reality of aging. Most of my friends are my age and in the same boat so to speak.  It sure is hard for me to believe that my fishing days are over but it sure looks like it.

Sure wish we were a bit closer, Bud. I'd be happy to strap you in and go fishin'.

Bud,
See if you can find a retired men's group in your community. I belong to a Retired men's social club that has all manner of active sub sets like golf, bowling, cards, and fishing among others. I am in the fishing group and we have members approaching their 90s. The "younger guys" in their 60s and 70s that have boats help keep the older fishermen on the water.  Don't give up yet!
I knew I shoulda re-tied!!

I'm trying real hard to not get there (older). I understand that's a fallacy, but still. I see folks my age (60) and not much older using canes and walkers and I wonder where they'll be in twenty years.

Fact is I'm in the best shape I've been in since my early 30's. Doing a lot of cardio, lifting weights (man, does THAT show you how old you're gettin') and eating as right as possible for someone in the freakin' restaurant business. Anyway, point being, I'm trying to head it off. Fantasy maybe, but still.

Best to you Mr. Kennedy. Here's fingers crossed it works out for you.

Bud, got ya in my daily prayers buddy.  I'm still hanging in there too hoping this Spring I'll get the opportunity to hit the lakes again.  My Kidney issue is improving; I still have trouble kneeing down on one knee and getting back up.

I just had an MRI on my Prostate.  They are wanting to do a Biopsy here to check out what the MRI showed them.  Hopefully all will be good.

I'm looking forward to this Spring.  If all goes well me the Stratos will once again be out on the water.  If not then I'll put a For Sale Sign on her and we'll go from there. I've had that boat for 19yrs and had some great trips out in it  ~shade

I understand Bud. My uncle is in his 80s and the one thing that we have in common is our love for fishing. He hasn't been able to go in the last couple of years. I know that he misses it. I surely do.

I get what you're saying.  Every year it gets a little harder and launching alone went from a breeze to a thought process.  My biggest problem is the vast majority of my fishing buddies have stopped fishing, or are no longer with us.

I would be honored to pilot some of you all around - in your boats.

tie your baits, net your fish, and unhook them.  this would be way more fun that feeding the old lady next door, and taking out her garbage cans and cleaning her cat litter box.  WAY more fun.

I judge on how we treat our precious elderly.

You know, I might be nearly 50 years younger than that, but sometimes we just need help with something. It may be hard to accept but sometimes we just do... I'll tell you a short story.
I've updated this forum and worked on it so many times, no big deal, always finished the task and yet my 3D printer collected dust for over 3 years before I finally decided I needed some damn help to get it to work. I found an Asian person who just dedicated like half a day to tell me what I was messing up and now I *actually* own a 3D printer that can print things.
What I'm trying to say is, be it physically or psychologically, we may need help sometimes and in your case, it could be just to go with someone else so you can assist&look out for each other. Can't lift something or whatever else? 2 people will do it, together.
Currently Tech Admin on here, you can also call me Flavio :) ...Yes, I am friendly! (Maybe) :P
