The Boom Boom Frogs recently came across my radar. Bass fishing Pro Fred Roumbanis created them.

These frogs come in an assortment of colors and have this patch of "fur" on their backs.

Out of the box, the frogs are equipped with 4/0 Mustad hooks.

Another interesting feature I like is the skirts are the perfect length.

On the bottom of these frogs, they added an eye. I've never seen that before.

The last nice feature I noticed was that the frogs have rattles inside them.

Construction seems sturdy. The popping frog has a unique mouth. I'm curious to see how much "pop" the small cupped mouth will generate.

I will be water testing these frogs really soon! I'm curious if the "fur" is just a marketing ploy, or will it hold the bass longer? We'll see!

I will be shooting a video about these frogs over in the next couple of days.

Stay tuned!

I've seen these, but never bought any. I'm skeptical that the little velcro patch will do anything noticeable for hook-up ratios, but who knows. I'm interested to see what you think about them.

Two main things that I would like to know:

How soft are they/do they collapse well? Especially since there's an internal rattle involved.

Do the non-popping ones walk well?

I haven't fished with these frogs yet. Tomorrow will be my first time.
I agree about the "fur."  I think it's just marketing hype, and that will probably be the first thing that tears off. I hope I'm wrong.
As far as the softness of this frog, I put in line with a Spro. It's not too tough but not too soft.
The durability factor is what I'm curious about.

Can't answer the popping frog question yet. But I will answer that question when I get back tomorrow. ;)

I've never seen a frog sporting a "soul patch" up top (lol !)

Well, I broke in the Boom, Boom Frogs. To make this review short and to the point. These frogs are garbage.

It disappoints me to say that. I do not like talking negatively about a product. But since I'm not sponsored by them, it's only right that I be brutally honest.

I started throwing the popping frog first. The bass bite was great in the morning. Within 15-20 minutes, I had 4 great blow ups. 3 of the hits the bass quickly shook the hooks, and the 4th hit was a 3.5-4lbr that came off right at the boat.
Went to cast again, and the frog started to sink as soon as landed on the water.

Thinking that I forgot to squeeze the frog before casting it again. I checked the frog, and yes, it had water in it. Upon closer inspection, however. The cupped mouth was ripped. Rendering the frog useless.

Next up was the Boom, Boom hollow body frog.

In very short succession, the bass were striking this frog. I had 4 solid blowups and landed 2.

Inspected the frog, the "fur" was gone. Figures. And the nose had a small rip on it, causing the hook assembly to continuously pop out.
With the ripped nose, this frog was useless as well.

I expected more from an $11 frog. I'm so disappointed.

I removed the Boom,Boom Frogs, and switched to my LiveTarget and Spro frogs with ZERO issues.

Hope this review helped you guys.

I shot an entire video discussing these frogs, and unfortunately, my SD card was corrupted and I lost all the footage plus all the footage of another frog video I shot as well. 2 videos down the drain.  :'(  :'(

Oh man, I was hoping to see the video footage. Thanks for the honest assessment. I'm surprised that a pro would put his name on a substandard product. That's a disappointment.

I'm disappointed the footage was lost. 4 bass per frog are not good numbers. Especially when you compare these frogs to a Spro frog, which catches me north of 50 bass.

Thanks Lou for your honest review!  Did the heat cause the problem with the SD card?

Well thanks for taking one for the team, Lou  lo

I guess I'll just stick with Spro.

Thanks George. I don't know what caused that chip to fail. Could have been a number of things I guess. I have used that chip a lot over the last 3 years. Unfortunately these chips don't have a gauge that tells you how much life they have left. I'm disappointed because I had good footage. Catching 2, six pound bass on frogs is not easy to come by these days.  :'(

Lol, yeah, you're welcome.  lo  I will be sticking with Spro and LiveTarget frogs for a long while. I will say this, I'm fortunate to have the Everglades as my testing ground for baits. If a frog could survive an active bass bite out there, its a good bait.  ~bb  lo

Lou, have you noticed the quality control go down any with Spro frogs? I love Spro but just bought another Spro popping frog and it sinks without catching the first bass. I had heard that the new frogs aren't made as good as the old ones.

I have been hearing the same information for the last couple of years. I must be extremely lucky when it comes to Spro's because I haven't had any issues other than the paint not lasting long.

I will say however, most quality control issues I have had in the past with HB frogs, are with Popping Frogs. For example, I enjoy fishing LiveTarget (LT) hollow body frogs, but I will never buy an LT popping frog again, even if they are on sale. The area around the line tie quickly tear similar to the Boom Boom Frog.

Over the years, I have diagnosed in my own way, 2 issues that will shorten a frog's lifespan. One, the hookset, and two, using a heavy powered rod. The problem is however, I will not compromise on either issue. Why? Because in order to be successful at frog fishing, you need a strong hookset and a heavy powered rod.

The chance of losing a nice bass, north of 6lbs in the thick stuff increases dramatically if you improperly hookset or use the incorrect rod.

What's the solution? With me, at least, I accept the fact that due to the nature of how I fish the frog, I need to carry a couple of spares on any given frog outing.  ;)  :-*
