Conditions:
Wind: 8-12 SW
Skies: Blue bird
Temps: 80's
Water temps: 77-80
Water Clarity: Stained in some areas
Vegetation: a lot of hyacinth
Fishing Time: 12:30-6pm

Had a guide trip with a father and son who are recent South FL transplants. They wanted to try their hand at fishing for peacocks and learn how to fish our canal systems.

We launched at 12:30 and made a run to an area I know that holds a good number of peacocks. These guys were use to fishing lakes back at home, and quickly came to the realization that fishing our Everglades canals requires a refined casting skillset.
I knew the peacocks were around, but they were holding extremely tight to cover, and were refusing come out and attack our baits. Coupled with the abundance of hyacinths, finding a clear target to cast to was challenging.
My clients were successful at landing several mayans, oscars, and a few bass, but missed a few opportunities to land a peacock on this go around.
Despite the conditions, these guys were blast to fish with. They had a great attitude, and learned a ton about fishing in our canal systems. The trip was such a success, they booked another trip for later this month!! How about that for determination.  ~bb

Day in Perspective: The high pressure system had the bass really hunkered down. The high volume of hyacinths extended out along the banks making it very challenging for fishing novices to hit "fishy" targets.

Despite not boating peacock, the clients had a great time, learned a lot, and enjoyed themselves. I can't ask for more than that.

Thank you for reading.

They were in good hands. How's the water level looking down there? I assume that they are still pushing water south?

Sounds like a good trip regardless! I was curious about the vegetation out there, last time I fished out there it was terrible.

The hyacinth is running pretty thick in some areas. Making fishing the bank line pretty challenging.
