Dobyns 6’6” vs 7’, does length affect power and action?

Looking specifically at the Fury series, but I'm wondering in general about all rods really, does length of a rod affect power and action if two rods are rated the same?

Say if I directly compare the Dobyns Fury FR 663C and the FR 703C, both are rated MH/F 10-17# line, 1/4-3/4 lure weight. Will the 7' rod be softer or stiffer than the 6'6", or will they have the same feel and blank flex regardless of length difference?

In general, I think shorter rods will transmit info to our hand/brain quicker.

While they will rate the same, the shorter rods do feel stiffer. Since you're looking at 6 inches difference in length you could feel a weight difference. However, with Gary's rods, they are so balanced it's hard to tell the difference in weight.

I have both of those rods, so I can tell you exactly how they compare. The 66 series in both spinning and bait casting configurations are faster and feel like they have more backbone than the 70 versions. The FR663C and feels a bit bit more stout than a FR703C but with a slightly lighter tip. The power section of the blank engages much sooner than the 7' version, where the 703 has a much slower overall feel.

I am an old guy that grew up bass fishing when 6'6" was a long rod, and most bass rods were 5'6" and had a pistol grip. I now prefer most of my rods to be 7'2" or longer, except for my jerkbait rod which is 6'10". If you are considering going to the FR703, I'd recommend going to the FR733C (which I also have) as I think you will like the feel much more.
