I'm trying to figure out a solution for a one rod setup for spinnerbaits of 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 ounce ratings, and also have it generally handle buzzbaits, chatterbaits, and heavier crankbaits and lipless crankbaits, all on one rod. I thought I had found one that will get me by, the Falcon HD HDC-66MH. But I'm apprehensive about its lure weight rating of 1/4 - 3/4.

First, let me say this. A few years ago I weighed a lot of different baits on a food weigh scale, and I found with spinnerbaits that whatever the weight was rated at, in truth it weighed about double that much every time. So a 1/4oz spinnerbait was really 1/2oz, 3/8 was 3/4, and the 1/2oz sizes actually weighed in at 7/8, just a little less than double. That was without a trailer plastic also. I figure the rated weight is just the lead head, and by time you allow for blades, skirt, hook, and frame, that's where the weight increase comes in.

Anyway, I'm looking at a Falcon HD rod that is a MH/MF rating, and it says it handles lures from 1/4 - 3/4. I know by time I get a 1/2oz spinnerbait with a paddletail trailer tied on that I'll be throwing over an ounce of weight. Is this a concern for the rod possibly having its tip broken by being overloaded on the cast? Even if not, do you think it wouldn't perform well in casting if it is overloaded?

Also, while I was here, I read another thread about spinnerbait rods that many people replied to saying they think a Dobyns Fury 734C is a good one for spinnerbaits. Isn't that a stiffer rod? I'm actually looking at that rod for frog fishing in the pads because I thought it would be stiff. It is a H/F rating. Even if it does well for spinnerbaits, I'm not sure how that would also work for the other baits I'm trying to cover with it.

The dobyns CH 735, Glass rod is ideal for heavier Spinner and Cranks baits. The 734 glass will be better suited for the same family of those mid sized lures.

At the recommendation of a friend I bought a KK Speed Demon Pro Carolina rod. It is 7'6" F/MH 10-25# 1/4-1oz lures. I am going to use it as an all around rod. Has 12+1 guides and weighs 5 oz.

I like using a crankbait rod for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. Seems like the little bit of extra give helps with the hookup. Maybe it's all in my head, but it seems to help. I usually use a Dobyns K610-4CB, and even though it's a little shorter it still works well, and it's my preferred rod for traps and squarebills, so it's already in the boat.

My vote goes to the Dobyns Sierra 734 C for the spinner bait weights you mentioned. It's my go to spinnerbait rod and the tip is just a bit slower than similar rods, sorta like a crankbait rod.

You don't end up pulling the bait away from fish and if you're throwing cranks or other treble hook baits it helps keep them pinned.

When you say big cranks and lipless, if you are going over 1/2 oz then I would go with Lou's recommendation of a glass rod with one exception. If you're gonna be "ripping" the lipless out of grass I would go with a Sierra 735C. You still get the  slightly slower tip but it comes into the meat of the graphite blank faster than a glass rod.

Just one man's 2 cents worth.

My Spinnerbait rod is a Dobyn's Fury 734C its 7'3" rod with a Heavy Fast Tip.

I can use it for Spinnerbaits, Buzzbaits, Senkos, Horny Toads, Jigs and Small Swimbaits.

The Falcon head turner is as any spinnerbait rod I've ever owned.  Pick one from the series that's in your budget.
It was meant to be a short flippin' rod but tip is perfect for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits.

best spinnerbait rod IMO is a loomis SBR 812.  Unfortunately someone stole it when the boat was broken into but it can be replaced.

Throw all my spinner baits on the Falcon Bucco MH moderate and 30 pound braid. Worked for me for many years.

my spinnerbaits just end up on any open rod.

I don't need much in the way of sensitivity, because a bass hitting a SB is unmistakable, unless they hit on the fall.

it mostly goes on my heavy Phenix.  I like a whippy tip to help me cast them better.  they fly like lawnchairs.

Spinnerbait rods can vary depending on how you like to fish them. For roll casting to targets and around trees a shorter rod can help us you hit your target without having too much rod that would interfere with overhead branches and cover. Many pros prefer a 6-10 to 7-0 in that type of situation (MH).

For more open water fishing with a spinnerbait a longer rod is sometimes preferable, 7-3 ish.(MH).

Now if you add in bladed jigs, many prefer a softer rod with a little bit of flex to keep a fish pinned. A medium rod to medium heavy might be better for some.

Another important factor is type of line that you like to use. Braided line might allow you to use a softer rod for spinnerbaits and fluorocarbon carbon calls for a heavier rod.

Lots of factors to consider.

I personally like a 7 MH for spinnerbaits because I like to target cast and move up to a 7-3 MH with a softer tip for bladed jigs. I prefer fluorocarbon for both setups.

Generally I like a  7' - 7' 3" rod for spinnerbaits but I will go down to 6' or even an old 5'6" pistol grip rod for those tighter target oriented situations.

I fish braid on all my spinnerbait rods (really for pretty much everything) so I prefer a rod with a slightly softer tip but comes into the backbone fairly quick.

There are a lot of really good spinnerbait rods on the market today and with spinnerbaits being a moving bait presentation you don't need to spend a small fortune for an ultra-sensitive rod.
