Conditions-
Water Temps:72-73
Outside temps: Mid 60's to Low 80's
Skies: Partly Cloudy
Moon Phase: Waning Gibbous
Wind: SW 5-10
Current: Yes
Water Clarity: Stained
Water Level: High
Fishing time: 0645-1:30pm (Trailer tire blow out at 3:30pm arrived at home 7pm)
Fish Boated: 97 (90% peacock - 10% bass)

Met up with Esteban do some peacock fishing on the Miami Canal. We arrived at the ramp a little before sunrise. Water was high, but there was no current, yet.

Water temps weren't too bad. Low 70's. Pea's function well at those temps. I started with several top water techniques, all to know avail. We quickly found out, that the big oscars are out in full effect though.
Esteban switched to a swimbait, and that seem to get the fish going.

I obliged and switched to my bfs stuff, and also began to throw small swimbaits. In short succession I landed a several small pea's.

We both switched to a fluke to see if we could coax some bigger peacock to play, but all we managed were smaller feisty pea's and whole mess of big oscar.

I had feeling that a smaller jerkbait would do the trick, but with so many oscar's around, I decided against it.

At some point through out the early morning, the current started up. Not too bad but still noticeable. The bite at this point wasn't too crazy either. As the morning progressed we continue to cycle through a gambit of baits and techniques until, we both decided to make the switch to the jerkbait.

It was lights out from there. Over the next few hours it was steady stream of catching pea's. A few were nice, but many were on the smaller side.

All in all we had great time. At around 1:30pm I called the day. Arrived back at the ramp, and saw that my left trailer tire was flat as Esteban was backing down. Ugh,,, I had to beach the boat, and deal with the flat. We changed out the flat for the spare and was back on the road. Dropped off Esteban, and was 20 miles into my return home, when my spare blew up! Zero warning, there one second, loud boom, and shredded tire the next. I never lost control of the truck thank goodness. Fortunately I pulled off to a wide median away from the traffic somewhat.

With two trailer tires out of commission. I called Boat US for my very first time, and took advantage of my unlimited trailer assist svc. Boat US was very helpful, and contacted a flat bed towing svc that was under their network. As result I had 0 out of pocket expense, for a 40 mile tow.

I did unfortunately had to wait 3 hrs on the side of heavily travelled road, before the flatbed showed up at around 6:30pm. In the dark, they loaded up my boat, and off I went in my truck home. We arrived at my house about 50 min later. The tow truck driver was kind enough to back in my boat to its parking space, and that was the end of my day.

I have a busy and costly day ahead of me today. I'm replacing two trailer tires. Don't know why the first tire got a flat. No obvious sign of a puncture. The spare tire is the one that has me scratching my head though. It had proper air pressure, with no signs of wear.

Quite the learning experience. And by the way, for the 3 hours that I was stranded, only one person stopped to check on me.

In case I didn't mention it. BOAT US paid for itself, in this one incident.

Thanks for reading stay safe out there!

Thanks, Jim.

At the tire shop replacing my tires, and found that this was the culprit that caused my flat.

Which jerkbaits were affective for the peas? Was it one particular one or color? Nice report. Can you give us a new thread about Boat US? Inquiring minds want to know.

The jerkbaits that were most effective on this outing were the Thundersticks and X-raps.

As far as colors, they had to have some color to them. Blue, red, oranges. The natural colors were not being hit as much for some reason.

I will create a BoatUS thread a little later.

Sorry to hear about your situation.   I have been there done that a few times on the Alley.  Cost me a fender last time it blew out.  Sounds like a fun day on the river for both of you.  Great job catching. ~c~  ~c~  ~c~

Yeah, it was a long day for sure. Especially since I don't eat when I fish. I hydrate but don't eat. I have always been curious how a 24-hour fast would feel like. Now I know! Lol!!

Wow on the fish, miss those 100 fish days.
Sucks about your trailer issues with the tires but glad it got resolved.
Surprised you don't at least snack on a granola bar or something like that.

I don't snack or eat while fishing. I'm too plugged into what I'm doing. Eating means I have to stop fishing. Lol!

Holy crap Capt. Lou 97 is some serious ass whipping. Hell I'll  trade a flat plus a blow out for 75.

All kidding aside so glad no one was hurt. Thanks for the report.

I don't usually eat on the boat either. Water and maybe some of those Body Armors or Gatorades. Drives my wife nuts that I don't take snacks. If she's going, she will pack enough chips, cookies, etc to feed an army. Then I have to dance around all the ice chests and bags she's got in the boat  lo

What is the worst thing about being a bank fisher? Always having to watch out for dog poop LOL
