I've been using a Champion 704,734, and a Dobyns Sierra 704 for bottom contact rods. I do not really wanna spend money on extremes. Are these Rods sensitive enough for this technique? I feel as though I've used other rods that are less expensive that have been more sensitive.

The Champion 704 and 734 are great bottom contact baits. I've talked many hours with Gary about the Champion series versus the Extreme Series. Gary rarely uses an Extreme, there are times when he likes the action better but it's generally not because he wants more sensitivity than the Champion.

IMO the Sierra series is plenty sensitive as well but a little slower action. The 704 is faster than the 734 in any of the series though and I've only fished the 734.

As far as comparing out side the Dobyns lines, I can't help. Many years ago I thought the Shimano Crucial was the most sensitive rod on the market, especially for the price. Then Gary introduced me to his line of rods and it was night and day to me and I've never fished anything but Dobyns Rods.

I see a lot of people comment on the champ line being used for moving baits. I use the champ line mostly for my T-rigs presentations and opt for the Sierra for my moving baits.

Ive been using Dobyns past three years, but really got into the line recently.

I use Dobyns Siera 733 , 734 & 735 rods ... I like that they are slightly slower which works great with my preferred braid main line . I can go slower yet by using co-poly as a main line (cranking) making the Siera series a more all - around rod for the money than most people would think .

I agree %.

I have multiple rods in every line from Furys all the way to Xtasys but if I could only bring one rod (and being bank bound that's often the case) I bring my Sierra 734C.

Might seem strange to say but out of all the Dobyns rods I own I think that one is my favorite. It's my American Express of rods - I never leave home without it.

Each of us has developed a preference in the rod series we identify with and it seems the actions take the lead, even over perceived sensitivity.

I myself lean toward faster actions  with the exception of cranking rods a a vibrating jig rod. I want my rod to load and lock up quick so I get speed in the hook set and immediate control. I'm convinced fast actions are more sensitive when properly balanced. So I like the Kadens a bunch. They're also a tad longer. I have six Xtreme, all bottom contact models.

Being in tune, familiar and connected with your rod and reel will send the signal through a trained hand and brain with good results.

Coming from somebody who has 5 Dobyns Sierra series rods - if you have the money then step up to the Dobyns Champion series rods for bottom contact lures . The reason is a little faster tip and more sensitive than the Sierra in equivalent length and action .
