Summer 2023 is in full bloom, lots of variety is the normal here in the backcountry and Intracoastal Waterway at New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon, catching is most active in early mornings as normal for summer, lots of schools of bait fish throughout the area. Fish in the backwaters become more scattered in summer, some on shallower drop offs and channels, as well as in the deeper spots. Along the drop offs can be Seatrout, Mangrove Snapper, Redfish, Snook also Jack Crevalle and Ladyfish, along the bottom more likely Black Drum, Whiting, Silver Trout and others. In summer can always have surprise fish come aboard, I've had fish like small size Bonefish, Permit, baby Cobia, Cutlassfish, Scorpionfish caught as a surprise not expecting them to be in this area usually. Black Drum are however one of the usual catches here James from Daytona with a nice Drum ..............

Spotted Seatrout are always a welcomed catch in our inshore saltwaters here in East Central Florida, Tom from South Carolina caught several recently out with me on the lagoon .............

Adrian and family here all the way from Oregon went fishing with me, had a great time catching many species including a nice Black Drum we released to swim off and hopefully make more Drum for next time ................
