I often throw a 2.8 keitech and am wondering if the dx742c would be better or the dx743c? I will throw 1/8 to 3/16 head with it. Anybody use the 742c? If so, what do you throw with it? Does it have backbone like the other extremes? What is the opinion of the split grip? I only have the full grip rods.

Unfortunately I don't throw a 2 power down here in the swamps, but I do use the 743 a lot for lighter stuff like wacky rigs and stink-o's (I hate them)... I've never felt like a lighter power would be better. I would thing the smaller Keith's expecially with a lead head would be great on the 3 power.

As far as handle, I'm a full grip kind of person. I have both, but there is something about being able to grab a full handle when I want to make a long cast or a fish is getting the better of me at the boat.

It depends on the amount of grass you have in your lake.  I have both rods and I rarely fish the 742 because of the amount of grass in our Florida lakes.  I bought the 742 thinking I would fish weightless flukes on it and I just don't fish flukes enough.  I hope to one day fish the 742 up north for some smallies.  The 743 caught my PB 11.10 on a weightless stick worm and did great.  I also throw smaller paddle tails on the 743 and like it much better compared to the 742 BUT this is mainly due to the grass.

Thx guys. I'll hold off on the 742c for now. I like using my 743c for the 3/16 heads w/2.8s anyway. I had simply read a little about the 742 and was intrigued. My main lake isn't loaded with grass but some surrounding lakes have more.

You need to be careful throwing those. Even a smaller Keith can hurt your back, and the tougher ones may come back and throw you!
