So just recently Inherited a 2001 ProTeam 185xt Jet with a Mercury Sport Jet 175 V6 in it (My first bass boat). Ive got quite a few questions and hoping someone knows some answers as i cant find really anything on this boat online.

1) Only drove boat one weekend last summer, (1st summer with boat), and it was a little rough getting it started (found some cans in the boat of starting fluid which helped). and after driving engine would run for a little bit a constant beeeeeeeeep alarm would sound until motor was shut off and sit for a minute (then repeat). Does anyone know of common causes of these issues on this boat or where i should start?

2) Plywood was starting to get soft and carpet was basically falling to pieces. So first thing i did this year was completely strip boat down to bones and recarpet / plywood the whole thing. All done, back together and something in the throttle control lever (at the Helm) has to off. everything worked great before im 99% sure it went back together the same way it came apart. Test drive the other day and somehow when put it in forward or reverse it would go in reverse. It did go to forward finally then stuck in reverse again then forward one  more time (when i took it back to ramp). Does anyone have any ideas here or know where to find diagrams or have pictures for me to match with what i have?

3) Is this one of the random spin off models or a rare model/setup? i seem to have this luck with every wheeler, vehicle, dirtbike, motorcycle, jetski, and so on ive pretty much ever gotten ahold of Which makes it real hard to find info or diagrams or anything like that on.

I cant seem to find much at all on this boat really anywhere. I have the Engine Manual, however it is literally just for the motor and nothing about the boat. Also i will say i am quite mechanically inclined but definitely not a pro and this is my first time diving into boat stuff.

Have you gone to any of your local Marine Dealership and questioned the Maintenance Techs?  IF they're unable to answer your questions my suggestion would be to contact The Mercury Outboard factory and talk with them.  Good luck in getting your boat fully operational.

I'm pretty sure that a constant beep is the overheat alarm.  Do you have a water pressure gauge?

I agree with FD, sounds like the engine is overheating.
