No Excuses

We started up the Thursday Nighter this week. Went from 5:30-8:15. BIL fished with me. We both struggled. The fish were biting funny. Had the bites/blowups to catch 15 or so. Lost several good quality fish. Haven't finished that video yet as fishing a less than 3 hr derby, I didn't pay much attention to the camera. We took second with 8lb 13.5 oz, with 2 12 inchers in the box. 15 and some change won. We had the chance, but just didn't make it happen. Took Pop back Saturday morning and caught a few. One good one, 4-5lbs. My Electro Samson won't power up, gonna have to tear into it. It was cloudy and drizzling rain all morning and the lake looked like chocolate milk, so Junebug Red was the color of choice. Ya'll enjoy and thanks for watching!

Mark, congrats on a 2nd Place finish on the tournament  ~c~  Tks for sharing the video with us also.  Looked like the lily pads were blooming out?

I enjoyed the boat ride back to the ramp also  ;)

Yessir Donald, they are bloomed out. The pad bite for a lot of the lake is about over. The area where I caught them very well a couple weekends ago, the submerged grass has grown up to the bottom of the pads rendering them almost uninhabitable. Crazy what 10 days can change. This is the time of the year that I normally ditch the Upper Lake and go back to the Lower Lake and start beating the brushpiles. Our main ramp we use for the Thursday nighter allows participants to fish Lower or drive across the road and put in on Upper, is being reworked and is closed until 6/30. That is causing us to choose Upper or Lower only. The fish still gotta live there, I just am making myself figure out what they do next. Most of what I am catching now is in and around coontail and hydrilla beds. I've just never focused on it before. The two lakes are side by side, and daylight and dark different. Lower is trophy managed, and deeper with more hard cover and less vegetation. Upper is just the opposite, shallow with tons of grass and pads. It's very misleading to new folks as the Upper Lake is South of the Lower Lake, but geographically speaking, the Upper water level is probably about 10' higher than the Lower and the spillway of the upper feeds the lower. Where the water boils up from the underground pipe creates a neat public bank fishing access point called "the old folks hole". Lots of fish caught out of it. Here is some info on the lakes.
