More coming later when I can use a keyboard. Big news: I  caught a 10.03! A new personal best! Big fish came on an Alabama rig. Also had an 8.07 on a chatterbait. Kate had a couple 6 pounders and decided she likes throwing chatterbait!  This was a reaction bait trip with many coming on Jackhammers, also good ones on 10XDs and A-rigs. Couple pictures of my big fish and one of Kate's 6 pounders.
I knew I shoulda re-tied!!

Nice!  I really do need to get down there one of these days, since I live next door...

#6
Got all my "Now we're home" chores done, so I can provide a more detailed report.  I am not going to repeat a lot of the logistical stuff about Anglers Inn and their services.  You can find that in my May 2022 report.  The is Mexico trip #6 for me and #2 for Kate.  I said last year's May trip was the best, but not any more.  Everything went well, including the travel to and from. Only hiccup was Kate got a few no-see-um bites and I sat on a bee while retying.  But we are getting over that.  We caught better numbers this year and even better quality.  If there was anything missing, Kate did not improve her PB, but she did catch several right at 6 pounds!  She also learned to fish a chatterbait.  ~gf We caught a lot of fish iwth chatterbaits.  We fished them through flooded timber for suspended fish.  Depending on depth we would count them down between 3 and 8 counts.  We hung up a few, but our same guide Martin is a master at getting snagged lures loose.  We lost 2 chatterbaits and 1 10XD over 3.5 days.  Not bad at all.  I will bring a few more next time.  We also fished both steep and sloping points with crankbaits, worms, lizrds and senkos.  In the morning we often fish bluff banks with wacky senkos, need to bring plenty of those, I went through almost a 30 pack of Yum Dingers the first morning.  We did adjust to bigger hooks and that made them last longer.  I did not have a thermometer, but estimate the water was 75-76 degrees.  Folks said it was a little cooler than usual.  Clarity was 2-4 feet with a nice stain.  We had quite a bit of overcast, which made it a little muggy.  We had mid 60s in the morning and one day it got up to high 90s.  But still tolerable.  We did find some places with fish stacked up.  On one hump, Martin had me throw a 6 XD.  I caught 1 to 2.5 pound fish on almost every cast for 10+ minutes.  I literally got tired of catching them.  We moved on to a rounded point with fist sized rock and a good wind blowing across.  Martin tied the boat to a tree, (El Salto Spotlock).  Kate took the front chair and I stood behind her.  We both were casting chatterbaits and fanning shallow to deep.  she had one just under 6, I had a 7.44; we even doubled up!  Her's was bigger.  :)  We sat there about 30 minutes and probably caught 12 -15 fish and lost a couple more.  Sometimes the fish wins.  lo.  I will wrap up with a last morning story.  Kate was tired and decided to stay at the lodge and have a nice massage, included in our couples package.  So I was on my own with Martin.  It was a decent morning but no big fish.  We were supposed to be in at 11 to finish packing and have lunch before departing.  We lost track of time an sudeenly it was 10:25.  Martin said one more stop at a "honey hole". I made a few casts with the 10XD, Martin said last cast, I did and caught a solid 6 pounder!  After a quick picture I said "one more cast" and would you believe I caught a 7?  We unhooked, took a picture and headed for the dock, what a way to end the trip.  Here are some more pictures including my 8 pounder, our double and my two last cast fish.

Fun trip! Thank you for bringing us along!

Couple more pictures.  The group picture is Kate and I along with Butch Dilling and his wife Rita.  The fishing community is pretty amazing.  Butch and I are not related, as far as we have figured out.  I live in California. He lives in South Carolina.  But we both have fished at Anglers Inn.  We both showed up in last November's fishing report, but were down there at different times, so we did not meet.  I found Butch through Facebook messenger and reached out to him and we had a good chat.  He scheduled a trip at the same time we were coming and we had a great time getting to know each other.  And we hope to get together again.

Thanks Everyone!  I enjoy writing up fishing reports.  They help me re-live the experiences, that's part of the fun of having them.  They also help when I do my fishing log so I can learn and remember what to do the next time.
