No Excuses

The bite seems to still be hanging on this year! I had about 1.5hrs to fish Friday. Normally I won't go if I cant fish at least 3 hrs, but with nasty weather and family commitments Saturday, I knew if I wanted to go I'd better get it while I could. Got to the lake and ran back to a big pad pocket I hadn't fished much and caught one pretty quick. Decided to stay with the pad bite and wound up with 8 or 9. The weather wound up moving out a little quicker, so after a brief turkey hunt at daylight that only yielded a possum sighting, a couple geese flying over and a tree hopping hen whose boyfriend was nowhere to be found, I headed back to the lake. The wind was howling and the order of the day was trying to stay out of it. I started on a point that ya'll probably recognize by now as a go to spot. Caught a nice one right off the bat, and another just on the other side of the point. fished grass edges for about 45 min then decided to find some pads. Caught one right where a pad field starts and then nothing for 30 min or so. I was about to leave and I noticed an isolated grass patch about 100yds offshore. It just screamed FISH ME MARK!!! It was a good thing it did because I pulled 7 pounds off it in about 4 casts! left there and found a big female on a bed, but with the wind, cloudy and low visibility I had to get close and spooked her. Picked up a couple more before the weather started threatening again and headed out. Best 5 was 15-16lbs. Not shabby for an ugly day. Finished up the day watching Alton Jones Jr put on a clinic at Bussey Brake, which is just and hour and a half from me. Gonna fish that place soon!

Bro in law fished Friday eve and Sunday afternoon up there and caught 8 Friday and 5 Sunday, all on my hand pours too. I have a friend here who is friends with Mark Daniels Jr. When he struggled at Caney and Andy Morgan was catching them shallow, all I could think was I wished my buddy had got him some of my worms in his hands!  lo
