Hey guys, my name is Matt and i just moved to Gainesville. I 34 and i am from New Jersey. I work for the united states postal service and i was tired of the brutal winters and only being able to go fishing 8 months out of the year. I am looking to make some friends that like to fish. I mostly fish from my kayak but i also will stand at the waters edge and toss some lines and walk the beaches plugging. I went out in my kayak for the first time here today and i spotted 2 sizable alligators which for me is something new and got me pretty nervous. I managed to catch 1 large mouth bass that was bigger than any i have ever caught in NJ and i cant wait to see what else the florida waters have to offer me. If youre looking for a fishing buddy or dont mind showing a new floridian the ropes and how to navigate without running into alligators, feel free to message me on here or on instagram.

Welcome Matt! There's not too many guys up your way. Ranger fishes Orange Lake and a few others nearby. He will probably pipe up when he sees your post.

Maybe ill have more luck in a year or 2 when i get down to the tampa area, but ya i saw orange lake pretty close to me. Im just here because it was the only place the post office could transfer me to with a full time position so i jumped on the opportunity. That being said, im ok with driving about 1-1.5 hours for a day on the water. Most lakes i would hit in NJ were about 1 hour from me as i lived just outside of manhatten so it was really nothing but houses and concrete.

Orange Lake has produced some amazing bass recently.  It is coming back strong.

I'm on the Kissimmee Chain between Toho and Kissimmee and will have more time to fish starting in late May.  If you want to try the chain, just let me know.
