What are yall thoughts about using this reel for DT-10'S up to DT-16's?

I currently have it on my Boom Boom 803SB and going to Toledo Bend in a couple weeks for a club tournament.

I know Ill be cranking points at some point.

Would another reel be better or will this one be ok.   If not then whats a decent budget reel for this application.

I also have a Lews Mach Crush on my Fury 705cd. Would that work?

Thanks

I only see this reel offered in a 7.3 gear ratio. There is a lot of personal preference that goes into a reel for deep cranking, mostly centered around gear ratio.

I am a crankbait fanatic and they were my bread and butter money winners during my tournament fishing days. Especially deep cranking so here is my very biased opinion:

I would look for a reel with a lower gear ratio. I prefer something in the 5's for deep cranking but they are getting hard to find.  You want something that will give you enough torque to fight the hard pull of a deep crank and the lower gear ratio gives you that.

I have a BPS Pro Qualifier 2 that is still available in a 5.6:1 ratio and at right around $100 I would look at that. Aluminum frame, dual braking, nice smooth drag and holds plenty of line for deep cranking.

That would be my first recommendation for a fairly cheap reel that will get the job done.

As for the rod I would pair whatever reel you decide on with the Boom Boom 803 SB rod for at least 2 reasons.

First, that extra foot of rod is going to give you a longer cast which gives you the potential to get your bait deeper. Second, it will IMO better handle the heavier weights of baits like the DT-16's.

Pair that long rod with a low gear ratio reel and you will have a deep cranking machine that will not disappoint.

That's my 2 cents worth anyway.

Nice!

My reel handles are on the left side. To the best of my knowledge Daiwa no longer makes a left hand retrieve reel in that low of a gear ratio or I would have them on my deep cranking rods.
