I grew up in Indiana hunting and fishing and just about everything a country boy could get into. I Bow fished quite a bit mostly for Carp and the occasional Gar. As I move forward 45 years and into Florida I keep finding places that are over run with Talapia (or it seems to be anyway).  Mainly the Lakes of Tenoroc and Headwaters. Some days in there they are so thick you hit them with your trolling motor.  Now you may catch one every now and again when they spawn or snag one with a crank bait. Mostly though they make fishing tough as they just spook the Bass when they spook. There are literally 1000's of them when conditions are right, all just under the surface and easy pickins. I have been saying for 2 years that I am going to buy another Bow and start filleting them. It came today and will likely be tested Friday. Let the adventure begin.

Yup. It's fun to shoot them and snakeheads. I don't eat them, I just shoot them and give them away.

Tilapia fetches a good price in the markets up here. I've only had it once but I enjoyed it.

Looking forward to seeing some pics!

Blue Talapia are good to eat, all white meat and is better than farm raised. I just give them away because I hate cleaning them. And a LOT of people are happy to take them in my neighborhood.

Only because I'm curious, what do you do with the gar or carp you shoot?

Carp and Gar in Indiana would feed the critters. Carp are awful to eat. Never ate Gar but heard they are a pain to clean.

In Florida you need to be cautious with Carp as it is Illegal to shoot a Grass Carp or remove them from the water. Hard to tell the difference from Grass Carp and Native Carp. Gar may be taken but they taste like crap I have been told.

Yeah Talpia in lakes eat grass. Farm Raised  eat Crap literally. Huge Difference.
