This is a question I get asked often, especially amongst local club members (Jeeps or Fishing). Does age of group members really make a difference or affect what you want to talk about in a group?

In my honest opinion, No. Because we all came here for the same thing, to learn and swap stories about a common hobby. Like, I am 42 but still follow and practice a lot of the older ways of doing things (tiller motors, hand controlled trolling motors, still have and occasionally use the old Zebco 33, etc.).

What is your stance on Age & Generations in general discussions?

I'm pretty much in agreement with you. As long as people are willing to learn.

The generation gap between old coots like me and people under say, age 30 can sometimes make it hard in general but in a group like this it really shouldn't be a factor IMO.

I stick to the old ways yes, but I have also learned SO much from the younger members. A fresh perspective is always a good thing.

As long as people are respectful of each other and keep an open mind age shouldn't really matter

That's my 2 cents worth anyway.

You and Jim covered it well. While I gravitate towards conversations that interest me the "age" of the person(s) involved doesn't matter. I've learned a ton on here from both older and younger anglers.

I'm 54.  If I want to learn techniques, lake breakdowns, etc, I'm usually looking to my older friends.  If I want to learn the new technology, electronics or fancy gizmos, I'm talking to the younger crowd....

I am 74 now, and started doing this when I was 13.  I still love it as much as I did in the 60's, but the last few years things just get a little harder.  Old friends have passed away, and some just don't fish anymore.
I still fish almost everyday, but much more from the banks that surround me, and less often from the boat.  You never stop learning, and almost every trip I learn something I wasn't expecting.  I also have learned a long time ago, that you don't worry what others are doing, but you fish to your strengths, and do what you enjoy.  If you follow that rule, good things will eventually happen.
You don't need new expensive stuff to enjoy this sport.  Just take care of what you have, and old baits still catch fish as much as they did in the old days.  Remember most baits and equipment are designed to catch fisherman, catching bass is just a bonus!  Over and out, Tight Lines! :-*

At 69 I love to see the passion in all ages.  Today's younger anglers have access to information in seconds it took me years to obtain but the passion is the same. My club tournament partner is 37 and we click.  I keep him up to date on tackle trends and he keeps me up to date on what day it is.

I found out age does not matter much to most fishermen and ladies, over all the younger members of my club talk of high tech items and ways of doing thing but love to hear about how we used to fishing in the past. Where the older members can learn about the new thing out there from the younger members so the exchange goes both ways.
So for few short hours out of our busy days we are all on the same level, there is no old people and no young people just a group of people with like interests being friends.

I enjoy and appreciate hanging with people of all ages.  from single-digits all the way up.  good people are just good people.

and everyone is different, regardless of age.  frankly, the older I get, the more I enjoy hanging out with younger people.  man they want to move fast (faster sometimes than their brains can keep up with them  ~roflmao )

but I find it's a bit like pairing an older dog with a younger dog... the older dog gets a lot more zip in their life ... and smiles a lot more too...

I'm 74 and started fishing at LOZ in 1955. Fished derbies at age 16. I get along with the younger anglers...or not. I believe there are life experiences between the generations. Tell a young guy that you caught bass on a grub and they don't believe you. Grubs are so, well, Stone Age to them. Everyone of them KNOWS you need a new Hypersonic Missile Fish lure to catch bass...and a tv screen, self steering TM and Artificial Intelligence.
