NewJen Bass Tournaments (newjenbass.com) had their team TOC at Clear Lake this weekend.  Water level has recently risen about 6 feet from the drought low point and has been relatively stable for the past week.  Weather was good, with highs in the 50s.  There were 111 teams in the event.  To say the fishing was good is an understatement!  20 pound 5 fish limits were cheap!  There were over 50 of them over the two days..  There were 3 limits over 30 pounds with the heaviest one day limit of 34.22.  The two day winning weight was 58.85 pounds and included the events big fish of 10.78 pounds!  The winners were two youngsters, just 19 and 20 years old! They won two Ranger Z518 boats!   It took 50+ pounds to make the top 10.  There were 2 10 pounders weighed, another 10 7+8 pounders and 6 pound fish were almost too many to count!  628 fish were weighed.  I am sure some teams skipped the weigh-in on Sunday.  Average weight was over 4 pounds per fish! They did not do much of an interview with the top teams, so not sure how they were catching them.  But given the results, I think they were biting a lot of differnet stuff!  I am looking forward to getting over there to see if I can figure something out.  Here's a picture of the winning team with4 of their second day fish.
I knew I shoulda re-tied!!

Insane isn't the right word for bass that big. Honestly, I can't think of a word for catching bass that large.

One problem those young fellas have, they were saying it was the best fishing day of their lives!  Now that they will have a hard time topping it during the rest of their lives!

but, it's on the record... AND, am guessing they'll have a lot of fun trying...
lo

that's the problem with personal best 'goals':  when you finally 'get it'... you just set the next one even higher...

Get to hear!!! Clear lake is an old fishery and continues to cycle into greatness. IMO Clear Lake says a lot about natural lakes and the lack of the state stealing massive amounts of water from it... It also has a significant amount of vegetation. Or at least it used to, I can see from photos that it still has cattails.

Fishing is more than just a hobby

both of my friends got skunked last week.  but i kinda feel it is definately on an upswing.  there was so much bait this year, the bass have got to be gluttonous fat.   but we are on kayaks so blasting about the lake is not an option.

My buddy James and I are heading over there next Monday the 20th.  Looks like several days of warm weather, so hope that wakes them up.  I'll keep you posted.
