I have a couple of SLX reels, they are workhorses, and at a good price point. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

This is going to be an upgraded version. I'm not sure what silent tune technology is. If they improved upon this and kept it at same price I'm impressed. I have one in 6 ratio I used for cranking last year. It performed well.

When and if you decide to get one, come back and let us know how you like it.  :-*

In reality the silent tune in nothing more than ultra fine gearing and a double pinion gear bearing set that ensures alignment. Not down playing silent tune, I love these reels. You can't beat 100 dollars for a reel that cast like these do and will last you a lifetime if taken care of annually.

The previous generation did not have this. I wonder how they doing these upgrades and keeping it at 99?

I ordered four of these from American Fishing Legacy. Used mint condition on sale for 68 a piece. I have three if the generation 1 SLX that I have grown to like very much. I provide initial impressions and a review once I use it.

The gears are the same price, the extra bearing on the pinion gear, is about a dollar (I would guess) on their end. Not sure if it would have taken any kind of retooling on the manufacturing line. But the double pinion gear bearing falls in line with the rest of the Shimano line now.

I have one. It's a great reel especially at that price point. I really like the 70 MGL also.

I'm really enjoying the 70 MGL as well.

I have the JDM version of it (SLX DC XT) with the latest version of DC, and it is a stellar reel! I also have the 70 MGL, but I think the JDM SLX DC XT is a nicer reel for similar money.
