Boated my son and his new fishing partner yesterday on Cypress for their first official tournament of the season. Didn't do any practicing on this one. Seemed like every time we had a chance the weather didn't cooperate. I had heard people were catching
them on Cypress, with pictures of a lot of big bass, which made me feel like I showed up to class without my homework, since we hadn't pre-fished.
Takeoff was at the Parks Rd launch, and we drew #45 out of 52, so I didn't have high hopes of fishing where I wanted to, but we actually didn't have anyone else on top of us, so that was good.
They fished shallow mostly. The bite was sluggish, and it stayed slow for us all day. Water temps were low to mid 50s, and the water was still high but on the drop. After missing about one fish each, my son landed their first one around 8:45 AM, and his partner caught their second at around 11:45 AM. They fished hard to get a third (their limit is only three fish), but never could.
I thought maybe we might finish in the top 50%, but the boys actually finished in the money (well, Bass Pro gift cards in their case) with a 10th place finish at 5.95 lb. I'm definitely proud of 'em for keeping their heads down and grinding out a decent finish out of what was a slow day.
Funny enough, both bass the boys caught had those black "tattoos" in the exact same spot on their lip.

Fishing all day for two fish is hard fishing, especially when dealing with the attention span of youngsters. You definitely have a couple of dedicated kids. Congrats on the 10th place finish, I heard there were over fifty teams fishing ~c~

Thanks guys. I was surprised at how we ended up, but we'll take it.
