could be anything.  for me?  getting a 36volt 112 ultrex tm on a little 18.5 foot tin boat.  cost $$$$$$$ but every day I'm out on the river and they're running heavy current... I can not only hold, but work upstream into it ... and do this ALL DAY.  being able to spot-lock and hold in current is awful helpful.

Upgrading from the stock 12v t-motor to the 24v system! Wouldn't have enjoyed fishing from that boat otherwise.

Other thing would be adding Talons!! So much easier to handle the boat with them and I'll never have another boat without them!

The best decision I have made happened a couple of years ago when I got totally frustrated with multiple service organizations.  When you have a vintage age boat and motor it seems no one in our area is capable of performing quality or timely service work.  My decision was to just start doing all of my own work.  If anything breaks I can fix it and at the same time save a bunch of money.  For the first time in years I have been able to use my 32 year old Ranger and 32 year old Johnson Fast Strike with confidence.  The modern day technician just does not have the experience or skills required to work on products without a computer telling them what to do.

Power Poles, Power Poles, Power Poles....

Since the first time I installed them on my staff boat I swore I'd never be without them and I haven't. Being a southern shallow water fisherman, power poles are way more valuable than any electronic I could put on my boat. Being extremely lucky by being a staff member for Legend I always had the best stuff. So upgrade weren't really necessary. But man Power Poles are the best thing since peanut butter and jelly "samiches". I couldn't live (fish) with out them.

Buying the Ultrex is probably at the top, but it's hard for me to single it out as the best. I feel really good about every addition and upgrade I've made in the past 10 years and every one of them has made my fishing more enjoyable. No buyers remorse and wouldn't do without a single one of them now. I'd still like to add a shallow water anchor system, but this Fall will have to be new carpet and some serious professional detailing.

Years ago,  I crossed Erie in easily 5' seas in a BASS Cat Jaguar (passenger). The Jag is a 22' boat rated for a 400. That run with a 250 Yamaha Sho sold me on Yamaha. Amazing performance. That run sold me on the sho.
My next boat came from a dealer, an 8 hr round trip away, that sold Ranger/Yamaha. 5 seasons in, I still love that decision and will be Yamaha forever.
The Ranger came with an Ultrex, a definite upgrade from the motor guide that was on my previous boat. I didn't know what I was missing. Couldn't be without now.

The best decision I made was buying my Vexus almost 3.5 yrs ago. Wow, how time flies.

Hands down, it would be the Ultrex.  It literally has changed the way I fish. I expect any of the modern trolling motors with "Spot Lock" type feature would do the same. I am also very pleased with our 2021 Nitro Z19 Pro.
I knew I shoulda re-tied!!

With having owned 17 boats, the decision was still easy. Buying a rough water hull for Lake of the Ozarks was my best decision.

I guess mine would be having that recess trolling motor pedal tray installed.

It seems a lot of us are on the same page as to what was a gamechanger,  and my two gamechangers were poles on the back and a spotlock (Lowrance Ghost) up front.
