The idiots running this state have been begging us the last 5 weeks during the heat wave to "save power". Now every day on the way to work I pass about 4 million wind turbines and solar farms... they literally cover the mountain sides and are quite ugly.

But anyways some news station complained yesterday on twitter that their "power went out" and they got Destroyed by an oil company!!

Indeed.  And we currently have a significant wild fire putting smoke up in Northern CA.  They were commenting on the news last night that the smoke overcast is going to impact solar energy production.
I knew I shoulda re-tied!!

They'll blame whatever they can for their failures...

In 10 years when ALL the cars have to be EV and you can't even charge one NOW what's going to happen?!?!

I'm all for better more efficient power options. WHEN they are proven and more reliable than WHAT'S here now!!

at least this time its a local person complaining about the State.

infrastructure sucks.   we need to improve the grid along with lots of other things.  its a moving target, but as long as we keep trying to move forward it is something.  i cant stand doing the same old thing forever and hoping it lasts.

am amazed at how many folks today just can't seem to understand 'choices and consequences' along with how basic SCIENCE (not that politicized garbage) actually works...

this ain't rocket surgery folks...

Before I retired, I drove a tractor trailer for a living for you folks that don't know, and a couple years ago was out in CA several times. I was travelling up US 5 and I notice a very obvious stain on one of those white wind turbines. I thought it to be quite ironic that all that oil used to lubricate, now running down that structure, was something those wind mills are meant to replace!   ::)

Coldfront, I agree with you, that science is one thing, but looking at the big picture for the longer term is another.  ~b~

I'm all for "better options" but right now it's just not efficient enough to do what is needed.

Like Jim mentioned they do use "omg" oil and hydraulic fluids for lubrication. Quite a bit of it too.

Like most everything I currently own/use frequently-- it is/was founded upon thorough research and reliability! Fishing lures to vehicles and everything in between "if" it's BETTER I'll use it!

But NOT if that option isn't better but is nevertheless Forced down my throat...

what do you imagine is the bigger volume?   oil for lubricants or oil for fuel?  asking because i dont know.  i can guess...

Well yes we know the current answer to that question. But for something that is sworn to be so "green and environmentally friendly" they won't tell you the truth!

It doesn't matter what is produced as far as fuel or lubricants. The drilling & refining of oil will still be required. With reduced volume and use of petroleum fuel, the cost to produce lubricants and other by products will be forced higher. Refining to be cost effective, requires volume.

The economics don't add up, and there is still going to be a need for products derived from crude oil. That Hobie kayak you have, originated as crude oil, since plastics are produced from products that are produced from the refining of oil.  Your soft & hard plastic lures originated as crude oil. Not all crude oils are the same either, and depending on the source, what they can refine from it depends on it's actual composition.  Years ago, there was a big push to reduce emissions from auto's & trucks and limiting refining of crudes that had high percentages of things such as sulphur.  That also applied to high sulphur liquid asphalts used for building roads. Of course the sulphur can be refined out, but that increases the cost of refining and everything produced from that high sulphur content crude and that would apply to anything in the crude we don't want there.

The big picture also is that those wind mills don't even produce enough electric to justify their existence, and once they need to be replaced, those big fiberglass blades, there's currently no way to recycle them into a useable product, so they get buried in a landfill.  So, those who have pushed for these "green" methods of producing electric, with the effort to replace combustion engine fuels, have put the cart before the horse and created a whole new environmental problem.

This issue is much bigger than simply doing away with the use of fossil fuels and one that will affect all of us in one way or another.
