Lurker:

one who observes, but does not participate. The exact definition depends on context. Lurkers make up a large proportion of all users in online communities.

Albeit its not the most positive sounding word, it basically describes on-line users who choose to be non-participants of the on-line communities they are following.

So Lou,,,, what are you getting at???

I was a "lurker" for quite some time on several bass fishing sites. I followed specific forums because the information shared was so helpful and useful, but my participation stopped there. I would never ask my own questions or provide answers to questions that active participating members were asking. Why? For several reasons actually, and as look back, several of those reasons were silly, and others were a little selfish on my part.

Here on Ultimate Bass we have our fair share of non-participants, and I will bet several are LONG time followers, and yes, I'm talking to YOU right now.  I have a challenge for YOU.

For many of you I understand this is a big ask on my part. So here it goes,,,, ask one fishing question or answer a fishing question on this forum. Hell,,, live dangerously and ask 3 or answer 3 questions.  I will bet the answers and/or questions will help other fellow anglers, and who knows, you might just like feeling of being on the other side of the fence from being a non-participant to participant.

What do you have to lose?  ~beer~

Thanks for reading.

I was a lurker here at UB for a couple of months before making the decision to become a member and participate.

One of the best decisions I've ever made.

Lots of reasons why a person may lurk.

To anyone out there lurking but afraid your  question might be dumb for example,  let me assure you there is no such thing as a stupid question and everyone here is always willing to help out.

There are a lot of benefits to becoming a part of our little community of anglers. Want to know about some of them? Ask that question to find out (and start the avalanche of answers rolling in) !!!

In 3 days, I'll have been a member here for 16 years. It's been absolutely the best fishing group that I've ever been involved with. There were a few other like this too, and they're all gone for various reasons. One reason was that unfortunately, some folks can't get along and play nice with others. You don't & won't see that here!

I jumped in right away, when I had read a post about fishing tidal water for bass, something I had done a lot of, and it was a very good and informative discussion. The folks in that discussion, who were already members here treated me like I had been here awhile, and that's one of many reasons that I've stayed.  I hope that what I added helped someone too.

None of us here know everything there is to know about bass fishing, or frankly any type of fishing. But, the collective knowledge and useful information provided make this one of the single best sources for info about bass fishing and other fishing as well. Another reason I stay here and contributing what I can, is it's paid back ten fold.

I know darn well, that I've learned more in these past 16 years than I did the entire rest of my fishing life, and like many others who do contribute often, that's a lot of years.

I'm also on social media, and there's good and bad with it. There's plenty of good folks & good information, but there's also those who don't seem to want to get along with others.  ::)

That's never a problem here, and I very much consider this like having another family, but one where everyone likes the same things, like bass fishing and also gets along with one another!  lo

So, stop lurking and join in! It don't cost you a thing but a few minutes of your time to join, and there are many benefits to being here as a member, rather than just a lurker!  ;)

I used to post a lot but I haven't been fishing in quite awhile. I prefer to fish from a boat and the person I went with for probably over 40 years , moved out of the area. A friend I used to fish Lake O with and taught me so much, has major health issues and sold his boat. A fellow UBer I fished with quite a bit and who I also learned a lot from, rarely fishes out of his boat so I guess you can say I'm a lurker but I still enjoy reading of the success of others even though I have nothing to add or report.

Drop a "fishing partner wanted" post in the Florida forums. There are boaters out there who are looking for partners as well.

Ok, I'm probably one of those of which you speak. Long time charter member, but do not post much.
Couple of questions, 1. What happened to the contests? 2. How do you post pictures to the sight? I mean step by step instructions. I have searched the sight but what I found does not make sense to me.
Thanks,
twocold AKA John

@ Canesfan and Twocold. You guys aren't Lurkers. Both of you are active participants. Just because you may not post often doesn't classify you as Lurker.

Hi All,

You got me Lou,  I've been lurking here a long time.  Great site and love to see your, and others, fishing reports.  Finally got me to sign up and post.

I live in Broward and fish mostly out off one of the ramps on alligator alley. When looking for a quick outing I bank fish neighborhood canals.

Hey, Tony. Welcome! There's a lot of great anglers on here from down your way so I think you'll find a lot in common.
