Will drilling a skeg for a Skeg guard nullify the Mercury extended warranty

Will drilling the two holes in the skeg to install a Skeg guard nullify my Mercury extended warranty. I broke the skeg and it seems I have two options...send it in for welding repair or install the Skeg guard to effectively repair the skeg. I do worry about damaging the lower unit if I hit something again as well. Many say this can make damaging the lower unit much more likely

That's a great question, and I honestly don't know the answer, but I installed a skeg guard on my 2019 mercury, and it's the best thing I could have done. It has protected my skeg several times already.

Did you check with insurance? I bent a skeg on Champlain and insurance paid for a new lower unit. In fact there was a stretch where I rarely made a whole season with the same lower unit. Doing better now lol knock on wood

Managed to fix the skeg by bending, grinding and painting. Looks like new albeit a bit shorter. Still would like to know if Mercury would "mickey mouse" their responsibilites if the skeg was drilled.

Have you tried reaching out to Mercury or your boat dealer?
