I've been toying around with the idea of getting either a multiple piece travel rod or maybe even a 2 piece rod to stick in the truck just in case I have the sudden opportunity to take a few casts somewhere. I'm on the fence to go either spinning or casting as I have spare reels for both. I'm thinking that the rod and reel may occasionally see the salt water but will be primarily used in freshwater.

What have y'all used and what do you recommend and really like in either a 2 piece of travel rod?

I always had a 2 piece spinning rod and small tackle bag in my vehicle. Never have fished much salt water so my setup was strictly fresh water. 7 ft. 2 piece spinning rod, medium power mod -fast action with a 2500 size reel and spooled with 14 lb. Berkley Fireline.

The Fireline has the diameter of 6 lb. mono so it was small enough to work tiny baits for panfish and strong enough for bass, smaller cats etc. It is also excellent at cutting through vegetation.

That setup has served me well for 25+ years. Of course your mileage may vary.

My wife bought me a St Croix Legend 4pc spinning rod for my birthday. It's a 6'6" MH Fast. I paired it with a Lew's Custom Pro Speed Spin 2000. The rod comes with a role up pouch and I use a Reel Glove for the reel. I took it with us on a recent camping trip. My Dobyns rods have spoiled me.  It's light but, I wish it had better balance and the tip was a bit more lively. The rod is very tip heavy, so if you're fishing soft plastics, your wrist may get tired, mine did.

I have a buddy who retired last year, he just recently sold his home and moved to South Carolina. He's a very experienced angler. He gave me a lot of great stuff that he said he wasn't going to need anymore. I'm talking rear tine tiller, Honda Pressure Washer, and more. As kind of a thank you gift, I bought a Daiwa Revros LT PMC Executive Pack Medium travel rod/reel combo and had it sent to him at his new address. He called to thank me and was raving about it. Enough so that I wish my wife had bought one for me.

Thanks Princeton. That's the type of info that I was looking for. Anybody else have a specific travel rod or 2 piece rod that they liked or don't liked?
