Fishing License changes Effective June 1, 2022

Price are going up. Almost doubling but when you were paying $9.50 a jump to $17 really isn't that bad. I do understand the question among anglers, "Where's the money going?" I've talked to a bunch of folks and none of them really mind paying more for a license but they do want to know where its going?

The license does now include all the little extra license in one. Meaning you don't have to buy a hoop net license or a crawfish trap license, it's not a freshwater license and everything to do with freshwater fishing. Save on the salt side, for the most part.

You'll never get a good answer for that question... prob wouldn't want to know either. At double the previous one should expect TWICE the benefits, Correct?!?!?!

In reality you are getting twice the licenses when you add up all the separate licenses a person would have to get to fish all freshwater species.

I personally would like to see more agents patrolling and checking creels, especially on drained lakes...

I actually dont mind having to pay more for the license, especially since it covers everything for freshwater fishing.  It looks like they combined hunting licenses as well.  Mike, I agree with you on having more game wardens.  I have been checked only once in many years.  I was checked on Caddo last year, and the time before that was probably in the early 90's on Bistineau.  Hopefully the money is spent wisely, and will be spread out across the whole state instead of just a few places.

Does LA have something like we have in FL. We have what's called The Gold Sportsman License, which includes everything. Normally about 200-250 bucks. BUT military & vet's get it for 20 bucks a year (cost of a regular fishing licence).

We have a life time license at $500, and Seniors get it for like $100 or something.

I'm a disabled vet above 50% and get a free hunting and fishing license.

So there are a variety of options.

I think these are good for a full year from date of purchase now, aren't they? As opposed to all licenses expiring at the end of June.

Yes they are good for 365, good and bad for me. At least the way it was I didn't have to remember when to get a new license, someone always told me LOL but now if I take the summer off I don't have to pay for it..

[/quote                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Mike i agree with you especially since so many people are using the "Cheat Machine"    I personally don't fish for crappie except a few times in January and early FEBRUARY.  SOMEBODY  better wake up and pay attention. Limits need to be cut in half maybe even instill a boat limit.  I've noticed when I launch now days 7 out of 10 boats are crappie fishermen.  They all have the "Cheatin Machine". I suspect a lot of fish are being thrown away at the end of the yr.  Just sayin

I have spoke with biologist about this and while they are monitoring the crappie populations, it is a species that was already over populated. So if there is a decline I'm certain they will adjust limits.

And hopefully with the license increase they can get more agents to help enforce it.
