Had my hands on them Monday, very nice and they're gonna be durable. I promise you'll need a sweet touch on the thumb or a lot of brakes. Very well balanced spool on the bait caster...

I have two coming tomorrow.  I'm ready to see more of Gary's magic.

Smallie_Stalker

I know this is a minor detail but I'm curious to know the IPT on each gear ratio.

It's about the only thing they don't list on the website.

I don't know the IPT but there are at least two speeds. I want to say a 7 and 8 to 1 but now I can't remember for sure.

This is unconfirmed information, so don't hold me to it but it looks like 6.5:1 = 26" IPT, 7.2:1 = 28" IPT and 8.1:1 = 31" IPT.

I know it's a small detail. I just like to know this stuff.

I'll throw some info out here for you guys.  They say first impression is the greatest and mine is very favorable.  I thought I ordered a 6.5 and 8.1 but got the 6.5 and 7.2 ratio. I'm amazed at this reel series because it has some great features. The side plates tolerances are so tight. All fit is exceptional.  Finally a proper length handle and very nice grips. The cast control side plate has a locking lever with label for open and close. It rotates for removal. I added a drop of oil being the bearing looked dry.

The thumb at has a super solid engage and re-engage feel. Rock solid and no slop what so ever. Great line guide block and worm gear. Smooth action and no worries if you run braid to leader. The line guide will permit knots to pass easily.

Drag star is perfect, easy to rotate, not sharp and again, nice fit and tolerances.  Same for the handle side spool control dial. It has a clicker and nice firm o-ring seal.  Everything feel rock solid and smooth.

Both reels came set at zero for magnetic brakes.  By the way, setting adjust is well protected and ergonomics are really nice and comfortable. I have large hands and palming was great.

Finally, how did they cast?  Mike was spot on regarding a fast spool and recognizing an educated thumb will be helpful.  It took a few minutes and a dozen casts to find my setting point.  I set the mag cast at 5 and tightened the spool control knob about 300 degrees. This allowed me a variation using more or less mag control. The spool starts Quick!  I ran 15 and 17 floro for lines.  I see the Mavs as great work horse, day in day out reels.  Where they shine is pitching because of quick spool start up.  So Gary put a rock solid product out there.  Fiddle with the cast control and you'll get it set.  If you cast right out of the box,  set the mag brakes at 9 and thank me later. Enjoy!

Once again, thanks for the great information Doug!!!

I saw over the weekend that they were now in stock.  I am going to place an order this morning.

Smallie_Stalker

It's gonna take me 2 or 3 months to save for one. I hope they have some left by then. They seem to be flying off the shelves pretty quick!

Same stuff the Shimano SLX to Curado is made out of, all manufactures call it by a different name.

I have three shipping today.  I have a big problem with ordering stuff like this from Dobyns, I went after reels and now I have a big box coming.  For some reason I cannot "just" order reels,  I have shirts, caps, jigheads, spinnerbaits, and a few other things that made their way into my box for some reason that I cannot figure out.  Explaining this to the wife is getting somewhat difficult... =)

The boxes were never a problem for me. But when she saw a new rod tube coming through the door......well, let's just say I knew I was in for a "discussion".

Ok here is the report on the first outing. I got a 7.1blue and a 6.5. green. Love the different colors You can just glance to know what speed the reel is. Put the 7.1 on C-rig rod and the 6.5 on a topwater Rico rod. I wanted two different weight extremes to try. So help me the first cast Robert made with the Crig he caught a 5lb largemouth. Can't make up some things. The reel cast the 3/4 weight great. Sometimes when you sling a big weight the spool likes to over spin and jerk but the Maverick was rock steady. Now the Rico. This one surprised me a little. A Rico is a light bait and can cause problems in a breeze. Maverick launched it with ease. I wound up with a couple of three pound spotted bass on it. This reel will be a great topwater reel might even be able to spool it with a big spook. I've tried all the $100 reels and this one is by far the best. I'll more than likely get a 8.1 for weightless Senko's in the future. I did throw a Fluke on the 5.4 today without a problem. Going to get a 2500 spinning reel also. We'll be skipping some jigs on it next. Robert will be using them in a tournament on Saturday

Thanks for the quick follow up RB-NC I have only fished the prototypes, they were amazing. He made several tweaks to them since the ones I've fished so I didn't want to comment to much, but the spool system is the same and I knew it would not disappoint folks.  ~c~ ~c~
