That's their catch. They want you to pay for YouTube Premium if you don't want commercials. Those who don't, get bombarded with ads in hopes the viewer will opt out of free and buy the premium service. Sadly, there is no middle ground.

But....I have a trick for you. Skip all the way to the very end of the video, let it finish playing, then hit replay. You've now tricked the algorithm and ad bot into thinking that you have already sat through their required ads for that video.

* NOTE: Hack will only work on the mobile browser oh, it will not work while using the app itself.

That's their catch. They want you to pay for YouTube Red. Those who don't, get bombarded with ads in hopes they get PO'ed and buy the premium.

That works after the video has started, but I can't find a way to bypass the original ad's before the video starts.

And then for the folks who get paid for the videos (not me) the ads represent the ultimate in hypocrisy. We don't get paid unless there are commercials and I also HATE the commercials.

I'm betting that it'll all come to an end soon enough. Probably very soon after I actually get monetized. Sad, but I'll bet I'm right. FD said that YT was "fool proof" (or something like that). I don't think so.

For me, it's not the advertising, but the constant bombardment of the same ad over and over. I get that YouTube wants to make money by running advertisements, or getting people to pay monthly to not have ad's, but when every single click of a video starts out with the same exact ad all the time, it gets old. I've started muting my volume before clicking a video, and that helps, but still.

As far as running ad's on monetized videos? I get it from a YouTube perspective. I mean they are giving creators basically free access to billions of people worldwide, who they wouldn't have access to otherwise. A few ad's to help offset the cost of paying creators seems ok to me.

I just recently started paying for YT without adds and I really like it.  I watch a lot of YT videos and I play my music thru the YT app and not having adds is very nice,  I think I pay $11 or $12 bucks which for me seems ok.

Thank you Dave.  Finally a voice of reason shows up.

I guess the rest of y'all have forgotten that in the days of broadcast TV you were forced to watch what ever THEY decided to put on and you sat through 18 min per hour of the commercials that THEY decided to show you.

YT gives you access to anything that you want to watch 24/7/365.  And they give you that access for FREE.  Except nothing is for free.  There are expenses for everything in this world.  How much did you spend on that last crankbait, bag of plastics, or reel that you bought?  How much is a gallon of 2 cycle oil?

Either watch the adds, pay for YT premium, or stop watching YT altogether...

Who the heck watches ad's when they have the ability to skip them? If YouTube wanted us to watch every ad, without a Red subscription, they wouldn't offer up the skip ad box on many ad's.

How many people DVR shows and don't fast forward through the commercials? I'd be shocked if it was more than 1 percent.

Advertising is what keeps $$ rolling in to pay for operating costs.  We as consumers of media services (YT, Spotify, Pandora, Tapatalk, etc,,) have TWO options:

1.  We can choose to pay for an advertisement/commercial free experience.

OR

2. We can choose to accept advertisements/commercials in return for a FREE service.

The CHOICE is ours.

We can keep going back and forth on this subject, but the outcome is still going to be the same. Let's move on.  ~beer~
