Heck of a boat!! Congrats!! Love the upgrades as heck might as well get what YOU want! You'll love the hydraulic jackplate- I want one really bad for the shallow lakes/stump fields here. 36V t motor is going to be more efficient as well. Vexus did a lot of things "right" with this boat.

I had to ask and 'persist' to get the 112.  space in the back compartment is at a premium.  probably don't have room for shallow water anchors if I want them 'now'.  Not unless at some point lithium technology gets to where I go that route and free up 'footprint' space and weight.

plus, last year's model would only fit a 9/10 inch screen at console... was VERY happy to hear they've gotten larger and could fit the 12.

paid for it and walked through it.  Clarks Marine folks are very helpful and I can't say enough good things about them.  there were a few little issues they're clearing up (some carpet corners had some frays that need trimmed, sealed, plus, they put an 80 on the TM... so that's being changed)  Little things.  but they were easy to discuss.

this was a LOT of money... but figured I couldn't spend it where I'm going so now is good. ;)

gratified that I'm getting good interest in my RT 178.  it's a great little boat itself, but it's life has been lived in a 'contact sport'.  hoping to find a good home for her.  in the shop now getting hours checked, compression tested, and getting the go-through and service.  plugs.  trailer bearings.  found a local shop owned/run by an army vet.  Brian Spangler.

that said, the right people might get a 'right sized' price.  it's listed over in 'for sale' on this site.  been getting good contacts locally via face-book.  I'm not looking to get rich on the sale and I'm not looking to bend over any buyer.
we will see.

You should be able to install Talons; the only thing that goes inside the back of the boat are the wires to the batteries.

I got a quote for some ultimate bunks and the owner was straight up and said he wouldn't recommend buying them in Arizona as it would be nearly $1,000 if he could even find a contracted carrier to ship them.  I have two 10' boards, so that may have made a difference.  I just got Gatorbaks for my 2x6 bunks and plan to have them installed in the next few weeks.....

Do you plan on using lag screws or carriage bolts? I used galvanized carriage bolts so I couldn't completely build each one in my garage and then bolt them on at the ramp but I believe I have a better overall product.

I love the look of that boat. Fishing out of Lou's was super comfortable. Congrats Coldfront! I can't wait to see more pics.

Hang on the first time you use your trolling motor because it will throw you out

years ago had a minnkota maxxum, 65lb ... those 'old' tms didn't 'ramp up' like the newer ones.  had it on the bow of my ranger cherokee 106.
yes:  you had to be 'ready'.  learned pretty quick two important things:  don't run it on HIGH... and try to have it pointed straight ahead...

WTodd

Was going to say make sure you're headed straight

I second the Talons! Just a wire ran to the battery for the inside stuff.

Then again, I feel like I cost the man $.

Apparently I deleted part of my post Kurt. Anyway, I hugely appreciate the compliments and the YouTube plug. You made me work for it in IBass last year, and I appreciate that as well. Wishing you the BEST with your new ride. I might catch up later this year.

Oldfart9999

That is one purdy boat right there!!! If you happen to be in the area and want to give an old fart a ride maybe we could chase some smallies in the big lake.(Hint Hint Hint)
If memory serves the pressure treated of today no longer deadly to aluminum.

don't know who you are talking about 'costing money'.  appreciate your thoughts on both of my boats.
you know that invitation is 'open' and 'standing'.  should you need a few days away...  would love to share a boat, some water time with you.
for me to head YOUR way likely has to wait for my retirement.  and that's a ways out yet.

Nice Boat Sir,

I hope for you it will be everything you dreamed it would be.

thanks all, for the complements, congratulations.  Deadeye:  this boat is a dream.  have been fishing out of my current Ranger RT178 since 2013... and thinking a lot about what a 'perfect' boat might look like.  know there's no such thing, but the keys for me?

1.  centerline rod box that can hold up to 8-foot sticks
2.  plenty of storage
3.  short enough to fit in my garage
4.  enough engine to go as fast as I want, but realistically 'cruise' in the 40-45mph range.  would LOVE to have been able to hang a 135 or 150 on this boat as I know it can handle the hp, but that's not what the 'plate' says.
5.  upgraded electronics to let me hone in on key structure, cover elements on what is MILES and MILES of ledges on these TN river lakes.
6.  aluminum hull, fully painted.
7.  trolling motor that lets me handle the 'at times' heavy current in the riverine sections of these TN lakes.

#1, #4, #5, #6 and #7 were 'misses' on my little RT 178.
live and learn.

WTodd

I really like the centerline rod storage

An increase in OB power would be awesome on this boat.

The biggest issue with my Vexus 1880, are the compartments. Yes, they are big and roomy, but they retain a  ^-^ ton of moisture and  sweat like crazy!! If Vexus can come up with some sort of ventilation system it would be well received.  :-*

hear what you say.  my approach is to keep it in my garage with the lids open and the fan moving air.  as my usual routine is to take it to the lake on saturdays, boxes open allows it to breathe.
but that's also the luxury of storing in my attached garage...  just gotta sell the old boat so I can bring the new boat home.

I'm envious of that garage.  You're golden, like you said, leave the compartments open and you will be fine. Mine is stored outside and covered. South FL is not forgiving in the humidity dept.  lo

D.W. Verts

What a great topic. It's refreshing to jaw about something FUN.

My master plan, Lord willing, is to make a circuit in a year or two. Two weeks or so, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi. Then take the swing North, fish in Tennessee, maybe visit Kentucky Lake again (last time was in '94). It's a plan, we'll see.

Looking forward to some reports and catches with the new rig!

Pacific NW Ron

Congrats on a real nice looking boat.  It's nice to get a dealer that is helpful and easy to work with.
Enjoying retirement in the great Pacific Northwest.  I've turned into a fair weather angler.  Why do it today when I can do it tomorrow?
