What's up members of UB and others who have found our site.  As some of you may know, I am a budget minded, average joe, like some of you here. So when I found these two Dobyns at an affordable price, how could I say no. I opted for one casting and one spinning, then equipped both with Quantum Nitrous reels. I spooled the casting with 20# Powerpro braid and the spinning with 10# Stren mono. Now the fun begins.

My first overall impression is the weight of these outfits. Extremely light in the hands, which is great if you have trouble with your wrists or hands like me. I fished all day with no fatigue on my wrists at all. Very comfortable to hold and handle all day.

Second impression was how smooth they cast. Normally I'd hear the line rubbing or "zinging" through the guides of other rods I own. These were smooth to where you only heard the unspooling from the reels.

Third impression was sensitivity. Wow, I haven't had a rod this sensitive since my old Berkley Amp, and these blew that out of the water. With either outfit, I could easily feel what my bait was doing or contacting. I was even able to feel the slightest "tick" from a lazy bass who just inhaled the bait instead of slamming the bait.

Fourth impression was the Range of Usage. Folks, Dobyns goes above other rods here in the fact that they take the guesswork out of what lures perform best with there rod choice. They actually print what lures work best with that rod, directly on the blank. Now I also tested each of my rods with lures not listed, and they still performed beautifully.

Fifth impression was muscle. Yes, the moment of truth some of you foam at the mouth over, just kidding... Now you would think that in the terms of having lightweight, sensitivity and comfort, that something would have to be sacrificed. NOPE, not with this one. I managed to hook into a snakehead and clown knifefish with these and not a "pop or creak" one from the blank. It just took it like a champ and kept coming back for more.

Overall, I do not regret the decision to jump on board and buy these rods. If you're looking for a budget minded, high quality rod for the weekend warrior guys like us, the Fury Series is perfect. You get all the features you need & great versatility at a price that won't break the bank like others.

Thanks for your thoughts on these rods Josh. Excellent review!

My first Dobyns was a Fury 733C that I won right here on UB. Man was I shocked at how good and versatile it was.

Definitely a great rod for the angler on a budget!

Perhaps the 6th reason to choose Dobyns is the consistency from rod to rod including all Dobyns rods get spined / oriented for the optimum rod bend profile before rod hardware and wraps are added .

Line thoughts : Stren #10 lb. is pushing it on the spinning reel as far as line diameter which produces line twist and lower casting distance try to stay at < 0.10"  line diameter Mono , Co-Poly , FC  on a spinning reel. Try Hi-Viz Yellow Power Pro #15 lb. braid tied  to a Co-Poly or FC leader , set your drag at 1/3 leader strength rating and see what you think about your new rod & reel then . Also , on a bait cast reel (in my opinion) #20 lb. Power Pro braid is pushing it as far as line digging in the reel challenges later which resulted in me not dropping below #30 lb. Power Pro for bait cast reels - even then I spool  Power Pro braid line tight on the bait cast reel holding the line in a rag and applying a lot of tension as I spool . Spooling braid on any reel very tight is a helpful defense against line digging into the reel later on hook sets , freeing a stuck lure , etc.
