I know not everyone has expensive reels, and mine aren't high dollar, but my reels are expensive to me. I try like many to keep them in excellent condition so they perform as intended. I also like mine to look nice as well. I have been using the blue H2O Xpress reel covers from Academy and they have worked well for traveling to the lake and back. But since I don't use all of my reels many are left piled in a drawer. These little covers really don't do the best job for long term storage. They are not completely sealed and still can allow parts of other reels to make contact potentially scratching them.

So searching for a new system I ended up purchasing the Plano Protector Series Pistol Case #1404-02 and scored some on Amazon for $10.40 each. These cases are what I was looking for. I can now store reels that I have in a dust free case that is padded extremely well. About the only negative thing is they are not water proof. But I wasn't looking for a flood in the top of my closet where I will be stacking these.  ;D

Anyway I thought I would share in case some of you guys may be looking for a solution for your reels you may not use often but don't want to part with. There are three layers of foam. Egg crate on the bottom then the layer that you can pick out the foam making holes for the reels to fit in followed by the egg crate foam in the lid.

Just a side note I have a 200 size and several 150 size reels in the case pictured below. I will say these cases are deep enough I bet you could store several large round reels in these as well.

The case comes with three layers of foam. Two are egg crate style. The third is smooth on both sides but has been perforated. It has small squares all easy to be plucked out to create what ever shape or size holes you need. I just made mine slightly smaller than the reel so it fit snugly.

Pretty impressive selection of spare reels.

Great idea, my son likes to store his in the winter since we have hard water up here for 3 months each year.  Looks like a good weekend project for him.

That's a great idea!  Love that it is a hard case.  I use two of the BPS cases and I am happy with them but I like your idea better!
