quick question for all you experienced boaters... how often do you replace, recharge your fire extinguisher?  (have you checked your fire extinguisher today?)
and do you re-charge?  or do you replace?  then, what do you do with your expired unit?

I do this for all of the vehicles, even though you're supposed to do it every month...

Most of the small non-rechargable extinguishers have a 10 year maximum life. You should check to see if they have an expiration date. I check mine a couple times a year, Spring and Fall. Check the gauge, turn them upside down, shake, and listen/feel for the dry powder to be loose. If it's not loose or the gauge shows anything less than a full charge, I replace it. The old ones make acceptable targets.

The larger extinguishers in the house and garage are recharged every two years.

I check the gauge every few months or so, and keep tabs of the expiration date on the container.

I do like P_M on this one. My boat extinguisher only has a year left on it, was checking the prices the other day and a good one isn't cheap.... :surrender:

I usually check mine through out the year.  When it's not showing in the green I get a new one.

I replace the one on the boat every couple of years.  I have it mounted inside the right rod locker, where I store my graph covers, so I see it every time I'm on the boat.  I also replace the first aid kit every few years.

I have a small boat so I buy the un-rechargeable marine ones from Walmart for 16 bucks, then replace every 2 years. They're cheap insurance.
