Lower-mid priced cranking rod, whatcha got?

I am going to get my wife a new cranking setup this winter. Looking at a lower-mid priced rod. I have a few I'm looking at. I have one of the newer Okuma Guide Select crankbait rods and absolutely love it. That one is on the short list. I figured I'd get any first hand accounts I can get. Looking in the $100-150ish range. If you have one you like, let me know. No glass, needs to be really close to 7'.

I've become very fond of the Falcon Low Rider series and they make a cranking specific rod. I meant to pick one up last week but work got in the way.

I got 2 different KVD rods. I like them a lot, especially for the price point. I don't think I could go with this over the Okuma though. Great series of rods.

I'll look for a Falcon to handle in a store. I've been intrigued by them but have never used one.

I have a Fury as well. And while I like it a lot also, I still like the Okuma for crankbait specific a little better.

I think the BPS crankin' Stick is tough to beat in that price range. And, as much as it pains me to say it, Favorite has a 7ft 4 medium heavy moderate in the white bird series that is actually pretty good. I think it's like 60 or 70 bucks.

I don't know if they are still being made, but when Wright & McGill was doing the Skeete Reese Rod Series they made Two Different Styles. One was with all Micro Eyes and One had a mix of Eyes and the Blanks were of a different material or design.

Anyway, The ones that had two size Guides was called "terrinova" or something like that. I bought that sytle and never have had any issues with any of them. Guys that bought the Other style reported lots of breakage. I even sold them for 2-years and NEVER had one brought back because the Rod broke.

They made one that was called a Spinnerbait/Worm rod. It has a ton of Backbone in the mid-section and just the right amount of Flex in the upper end. It makes a Perfect Cranking Rod. Makes a Great Spinnerbait Rod too.

Last I seen them was at Dicks for about $90.00 Don't even know if they are made anymore. I have 2 that I bought at the same time and they are over 9 years old and still work like new.

The BPS Crankin Stick is a great buy. 80 dollar rod, smooth casting, parabolic action comfortable grips, different lengths and actions, Just a real nice stick for cranks, jerkbaits, spinner/buzzbaits and top water. I have several ranging from 6'6" to 7'10", like them all.

St. Croix Mojo Bass cranking rods are nice. But they might be glass I'd have to check as The one I have is kinda thicker.

From what I've read the Okuma Guide Select is an excellent rod. Many of the rods already mentioned also seem to be well liked. Can't speak from personal experience. Shallow, medium or deep diving? Makes a difference to me. I mostly fish shallow to medium depth. Of the rods still in production that I have, I have to say the $40 I spent for my Crankin' Stick (used) was money well spent.

I don't think this model is available any longer, but I keep a Hurricane Redbone 7' MLF 3/8-3/4 oz. in Florida for visits and it has a shallow running crankbait or squarebill on it all the time. Cast a 3/8 oz. lure the veritable country mile with my Primmus.

Too bad this rod has been discontinued. Fenwick Aetos 6'6" MLM. I came to prefer 7' or longer rods once I got into baitcasters, but this little rod puts a smile on my face.

I also like my Fenwick HMG rods. Pretty nice rods at the $100 price point.

I have four of the butt-ugly Skeet Reese rods that I bought cheap and they have served me well on smaller to mid-sized baits (like a Deep Little N) For larger baits I have the David Fritts Lew's rod. I also have two of the new KVD rods, but they're still in the tube, unopened.

$100- $150, "low to mid-priced". Man.

Or if you can find one the Kaden 610-4 CB is an incredibly good cranking rod. Just a little outside your price range but well worth the extra in my opinion. As a bonus it is also one hellava great jerkbait rod too!

Dobyns Fury 705CB...........I own 2 of them, and LOVE them for throwing cranks that run from shallow to 10 ft.

......also, for under $100, the BPS Crankin Stick, 70MHM is an awesome crankbait rod for sure!

It's going to mainly be for squarebills and mid-depth. I decided to get her the 7' version of the Okuma. I have the 7'5. The more I use that rod the more I like it. And I've cranked a lot this year.

Just ordered a Falcon lowrider, should be here this Saturday, Academy has the Bucco and it's a sweet little rod for 100 bucks but I love the connect nut at the bottom of a rod so the lowrider fits for me. Let you know later how it fishes.

I use two 6'6" BPS Bionic Blade rods. They're older, I think I've had them for at least 15 years, so not like what they have now, but they work well for me.

I also use another old rod, an ABU Harold Ensley Signature model, in 6'6". It's a composite material, mostly glass.

I don't think you have to buy a glass rod for chatterbaits. I use a Surman 50G which is a blend and the Powell Diesel. You can pick up the Powell for 90 bucks and cover chatterbaits and crankbaits . It fishes a bunch better than 90 bucks.

How did it fish? I'm a fan of Falcon rods.
