Hey guys. I'm trying to get into swimbait fishing but I'm not sure where to start. What would be a good hard or soft swimbait to start with? Maybe something that doesn't require a new rod. Also, what rod would you suggest for the bigger 2,3 and 4 oz swimbaits? Eventually I'd like to get a new setup that would work with the heavier swimbaits.

Thanks for any info.

Ps I'm in maryland so there aren't the double digit bass like Texas.

To start, I'd pick up some 4 - 6 inch swimbaits and put them on a belly weighted hook like an owner or owner flashy.

Find grass if you have some in your local lake and just experiment.   Try slow near the bottom, drag it, burn it closer to the top.

Shad patterns are a safe bet.

Something in this range shouldn't require a new rod.

I throw several setups.  A couple medium heavy 7 footers with a 6.3 and an 8.1.   If I'm going to be in thicker grass I'll opt for braid. If I'm in sparse grass Or skipping the bait under stuff like docks I'll opt for flouro.  Braid just doesn't skip good imo.

For the heavier stuff the sky is the limit. Let's get you going on normal stuff first.
