so i have three 6-10 quantum tour kvd rods.  two are rated 3/8-1oz and the other is 1/4-3/8oz.  obviously the lighter rod is medium-fast with the others MH-fast.  so i'm able to sling a vision 110 usually 30-35 yds...probably 40 with a tail wind, maybe further.  even though the medium power rod is rated at 3/8oz it slings the 1/2oz vision 110 no problems...if not better than the heavier rods.  guess the question here is do many of you prefer heavier setups for jerkbaits to impart more action at the end of long casts versus a medium power rod?  it's tough for me to see what's going on at the end of a 40 yd cast on a 4-6' diver...closer to 6' due to line size.  i prefer the medium rod for casting and weight but feel the action is likely better at the end of a long cast on the MH-fast rod.

I only use a MH rod for those larger jerkbaits, and stuff we can't talk about right now, At least concerning jerkbaits (a guy has to have a few secrets). A medium rod should handle 90% of your needs. It needn't get complicated. However-

In cold water, I mean 110 suspended 'til it dies cold, you've never fished one as good as you can fish one until you've used a 7' spinning rod and 6# line. Unbelievable the difference there.

I use a MH blended blank.. I think stickbait rods are really a personal deal. Some like a crankbait style action and some like a quicker action.

I use med spinning gear mostly, I throw balsa baits mostly.

Old Fishermen never die, their rods just go limp.

2 rods mainly. 685 with a small reel for stuff up to 3/8.

Cashion jerkbait rod with a 100 size reel for main jerkbait duty. Super nice action on this rod!!

Sometimes I pull out the fast moving special with another 100 size reel if i know they're on a jerk bite but need to rotate colors etc.

Last 2 are mostly when im trying the find that one they really want

and the other is 1/4-3/8oz.

I'm willing to bet the rated bait weight spread is 1/4oz - 5/8oz.

I use 3 different stups, all have 4600 Garcia C3 with 12 lb test flouro or mono.  I use an old BPS 5 foot 6 inch Bionic blade 1/4 to 5/8 med fast for fishing close to cover in shallow water,  A 6 foot 6 inch BPS Extreme for open water, fan casting flats, points or humps.  A Falcon Original (I believe it's called the Open Hook Special) rated 1/8 to 1/2 for smaller and deep diving jerk baits.  Boy my gear is old.  I find the shorter rod increses my accuracy, and the spinning rod helps with the more wind resistent long lips of the deep diving baits.

Well let's see.

I have used several different Outfits over the years for running Jerkbaits.

6'6" Medium Spinning with 8 lb test Mono in cool to cold water.

6'6" Medium Spinning with 12 lb Test Mono for warm water.

and'

6'6" Medium Rated but more of a MH BC with 50 lb Braid in water with lots of Grass and Hydrilla.

They ALL have caught Fish. Really way to much depends on When and Where to just say "one fits all", IMO.

I'm using a medium spinning rod, 7'1" with a light tip and braid to leader. The bait darts with a flick of my wrist, no yanking involved.  I can retrieve it sitting down. The smallish lures are rated around 4-6 ft and I can't see them till they get to the boat with 3 ft of visibility so they seem to run as advertised. If I lose a big fish I might have to consider something else.
