Tournament Cheaters in North West Louisiana Caught

Many of you know I was one of two tournament directors for the "Reelin For Kids" tournament this past Saturday. We had an amazing turn out and raised over $10k for the foster kids of N.W. Louisiana. Everyone had a great time, got a Dobyns Rod and lunch. We had some amazing bass caught and the $5k for a bass over ten pounds almost happened with several 7's and 8 and a 9.23 weighed in.

Unfortunately we had cheaters in the event that allegedly took bass that they caught earlier in the week and put in a barrel on a dock. Officially: Phillip Purcell and Hunter Moss admitted to Wildlife and Fisheries Agents, during the weigh in of the Benefit Tournament on Caddo Lake, of weighing bass they did not catch. Wildlife and Fisheries cited them for gaming law violation.

I want to give a GIANT shout out to the anglers fishing Caddo Lake. The tournament did not have a lie detector test available this time. However the evidence in this case is because anglers spoke up about suspicious activity. They were caught because anglers were vigilant and reported. Those involved know who they are and I want to say thank you. Area Tournament Directors, get a photo of these guys and don't let them fish your events. Everyone is welcome to share this post to get the word out...

Scum like this should be band from any tournament in the state, and surrounding areas. Make them well known to everyone!

One of them was on the LSUS college fishing team... The shock going around the country is pretty strong and he won't fish anything again, unless he moves 5 states away. The other one is a prominent name int he region of the lake and is also being drug through the mud. Anyone from that family will have trouble fishing a tournament in the region. I just wish there was a national data base to put them in....

Should be nationwide. They shouldn't even be allowed near a body of water that holds fish.

Looking at results this year "hunter" has taken quite a bit of $$$ from the Friday night tourneys on Caddo too.

I hope these two never get to fish another tournament around here again. Im glad they were caught. Cudos to the people that turned them in.

Hunter has been back fishing tournaments the past few months. I heard he fished one out of drift inn a month or so ago. He fished one this past Saturday that I was in. I won't name the group so I don't bring heat to anyone over there that doesn't know who he is. Just figured I'd mention it so people know he's back in the local tournament scene.

I can't believe they are still able to fish in any tournament. People need to say something to the directors if they see them. Notify Fish and Game also.

They went through the process? Several fines, some retributions, I don't know what all they had to do. But anyone letting them fish is hurting their organization. I'm not sure how they have a fishing license and maybe they don't, it's not something a tournament director has time to check on every entrant but is check if the angler is under protest.

I know Hunter registered for a fruit jar out of Drift Inn, when the organizer discovered it, Hunter was told he wasn't allowed to weigh. No matter how "honest" he might be now he can NEVER be trusted again.

Anglers need to point these guys out. I'd say the launch ramps are dark during registration but I don't want any of my fishing buddies to go to jail over these scum bags.

I don't know these folks or if they are repeat offenders but I think we can all agree we do some stupid shit when we are young and learn from it. From what I understood these were young bucks. Just providing a different perspective.

Most "stupid shit" I know of doesn't involve intentionally putting fish in a barrel and using them to Cheat/Steal from others...

Wrecking a car, a prank or 2/5 that went badly, broken bones from a dare- that's the shit I grew up with.

I hear you. I grew up pretty rough and was a shit head as a kid and "kids" are much older these days. My military experience leading young Soldiers and university students has taught me a few lessons. These guy's values aren't anyones responsibility to correct but maybe their folks, but again just offering a different point of view.

Oh wow. I didn't know the age of the one guy. Im sorry If I have disrupted the thread in my own ignorance. To add perspective my wife is a career probation officer also, just retired. I just tend to reserve the judgment of someone's potential I dont know based on my own values and experience, especially young folk. I hope that's understandable.

All good man. It really aggravated us locals at the time mostly because they CHEATED during a CHARITY event...

Character is seriously lacking in today's world because there are Zero repercussions and people know they can get away with it.
