Salmon season to remain closed in Marine Area 10

Action: Closes salmon fishing season.

Effective date: Jan. 19, 2021.

Species affected: Salmon.

Location: Marine Area 10.

Rule: Closes Marine Area 10 to salmon fishing.

Reason for action: Winter Chinook season in Marine Area 10 opened Jan. 1 and was temporarily closed after Jan. 18 to reassess fishery impacts and plan for future openers.  After evaluating catch and effort through Jan. 18, the threshold for total unmarked encounters was exceeded (738 of 579) and the guideline for total sublegal encounters was met (3224). This fishery will not reopen for the remainder of the winter season.

Additional information: Year-round piers; Bremerton Boardwalk, Illahee State Park Pier, Seacrest Pier, and Waterman Pier remain open for salmon fishing.

Enjoying retirement in the great Pacific Northwest.  I've turned into a fair weather angler.  Why do it today when I can do it tomorrow?
