We were fishing the TCTC tournament sunday and DJ hit a stump and the trolling motor died and we could not get it to run so we called it a day an hour early. i have been working on it (Fortex 80) and had voltage everywhere it should checked mother board and finally jumped 24v to motor leads going direct to motor, still would not run.
Thought about it for a while and got a hammer and tapped all around end where bearing is, thought
one of the brushes may have been pushed away from armature and sure enough motor now runs perfect. Never had it happen before, but spring on brushes is small and weak enough to be jolted back and stick.
That what i think happened and thoughts on what else might have caused this and was cured by tapping?

Glad you got it back running. Sometimes all it takes is a bigger hammer.  ;D

Just like an old Chevy starter, give it a good whack and it will get you home.

Glad it's back working and thanks for sharing your experience, could definitely save someone a lot of money in the future with similar troubleshooting issues.

May be a good time to get it serviced so it doesn't crap out on you when you least need it to.
