Not a monster by any stretch of the imagination, but its a Snook nonetheless.

Got to the beach before sunrise and set out to catch live bait.  A lot of Spanish Sardines were out and about, and witnessed several big tarpon rolling close to shore.

Caught a Spanish sardine worthy enough to use as bait, and I cast it right before the wave breaks.

I was standing in ankle deep water, enjoying the the surf, when I felt my bait become very agitated, my line tensed, and the rod loaded up. Short, fun fight later, I reeled in this guy.

Maybe I will get lucky and land another before our beach trip is over. :)

That's great, Lou. They feed a lot closer to shore than people think.

Very cool, I love targeting other species. I deployed to a little island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. I was there for 11 months so I had mother send me a rod. I caught the fire out of record bone fish that had never seen a lure before LOL

What set up do you use?  I went down to Rosemary Beach and there were guys fishing from shore catching different fish.  Didn't think to bring a pole

Congratulations Lou, a few more and you will be hooked.  I'm too far North for SNOOK now, but sure miss catching them when I was going down to South Florida, every once in a while.

I'm using my bass fishing spinning set up on 20lb braid with a  20lb FC leader, and  1/0 circle hook.

Big deal.  Catching little middle aged Cubans in SFL water is nothing..........

Oh wait.  You meant the snook.

Good job brother,  juvenile snook on light tackle is a lot of fun.

Congrats,

I caught my first one on my honeymoon. we fished the Indian River and I landed several small snook on a fluke.
They are fun on light tackle but the big ones need heavier tackle than I had.
