Have on order a helix 10 msi + g3n for my small 16ft bass boat. Haven't fully decided if I'm going to mount on console and spin it when I'm up front or mount it on the bow and add a second smaller unit for console. Question is if I got with a helix 7 for the console should I just get the helix 7 msi g3n and don't working about linking. Still confused how the linking works and doesn't seem cost effective when u have to add everything else.

from what i read it seems i can get a head unit only with the cables and link to the helix 10 im getting but the price of the cables seems to be more then if i just purchased the full msi g3n unit on its own.

Linking is done with an Ethernet cable. To connect an Ethernet cable to the displays, each needs the AS EC QDE Ethernet Adapter.
Once linked you can share waypoints, sonar technologies, Temp sensors, GPS, and Ethernet accessories. Cannot share mapping with those models. Sharing sonar technologies means you can share Side Imaging, as an example, to a 2D sonar-only model. With networking all you need is at least one unit that has the technology to share to other units.
There are CHO models (Control Head Only) that are available for those that have trolling motors with built-in sonar transducers, typically MEGA Down Imaging and MEGA Side Imaging. Some get the CHO versions for displaying just mapping or to share data from another unit (like dual units at the console or at the bow). A Helix 7 would have to be a N model to have the networking capability (G2N or G3N). There are non-networkable Helix 7 also (G2 and G3).

AND if you want to network more than two displays or add an Ethernet accessory to two displays, you need a Ethernet Switch (AS ETH 5PXG) to connect each device to it for sharing. Can have as many as 12 devices sharing data if you want, takes three of the Switches daisy chained to have that many connections.
