These are my most recently made jigs. A fellow in WI asked me to make him some 1/4 & 3/8 oz. marabou jigs, in black & blue. While I was at it I tied a couple in all black, which is one of my favorite colors. These have 4/0 Owner Deep Throat jig hooks in them.

I've also been playing with making some "flats" jigs for inshore, shallow water flats along the coast, or places like the tropics. It's not a "new" style, just my version of something I've seen in the past. I modified a buzzbait mold to make these heads, and only have been pouring them in 1/8 and 1/4 oz.

This is a front, top view of the flats jig. It's intended to look like a shrimp or crab and fished on the bottom over sand or mud. This one is tied with some orange dyed fox tail hair & natural tan deer hair.

The other photos are some of the heads that I had painted various colors.

Those are some really nice looking jigs Jim!!! ~c~ ~c~ ~c~ The flts jig looks like it would be a good smallie jig on sandy bottoms or creeks and rivers. I haven't tried tying marabou, looks like it takes a bit more patience than I have. lo

Thanks Rodney! I have been thinking too that the flats jigs would work fine on some Smallmouth waters. I've also been thinking about making a jig with a different hook for that purpose.  ;)

Marabou fibers move around a lot as you tie with it, but it's not too difficult to work with. Finding good plumes for large jigs like these is a bigger problem. I have to sort thru several ounces of the color to find what I want. I wet my fingers a good bit and smooth back the fibers to keep them out of the way of the tying thread, but otherwise as long as I take my time, they're not difficult to tie. Each of those jigs have 7 plumes on them, 3 of the blue, and 4 of the black, and tied symmetrically so they veil the hook. I try to tie them so the marabou won't foul around the hook bend, but it sometimes has a mind of it's own.  ::)

Small flies are a lot easier to tie with marabou than larger jigs IMO.  lo
